Opticomm-EMCORE, provider of end-to-end multimedia distribution equipment for 4K UHD and beyond, announced today the introduction of the AFC-HDMI2 HDMI Active Fiber Cables for distribution of high-definition video up to 4K UHD resolution over much longer distances than copper cables.

AFC-HDMI2 cables are available in standard lengths up to 100 meters and support HDMI extension from set-top boxes, DVD players, Blu-ray players and video game consoles to large displays, including projectors and 4K UHD capable TV’s. They are powered exclusively by the HDMI source, so do not require any external power supply.

Opticomm-EMCORE’s Active Fiber Cables incorporate the latest advances in HDMI technology including 3D and 2K4K/UHD, plus deep color from HDMI or DVI (with passive adapter) ports.

They deliver the highest quality audio including Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio and are thinner, lighter and more flexible than copper or standard optical cables while providing transparent EDID and HDCP support without signal attenuation.

In addition, AFC-HDMI2 cables are plenum rated providing fire-retardant jacketing for installation in plenum spaces, and they are much more immune to EMI and RFI degradation for stable performance in high-interference environments.

“We are excited to launch these leading-edge HDMI active fiber cables for home theater and commercial video HDMl extension and distribution applications,” says Henok Tafese, Sr. Director of Business Development for EMCORE. “These new high-speed active fiber HDMI cables deliver cost-effective, plug and play connectivity for high-end video systems.”
