Barco Acquires Medialon in Move to Strengthen Control Offerings

Published: 2016-05-03

A month that saw more acquisitions than any year in recent memory in the systems integration space ended with a move that largely flew under the radar, but could be pretty important.

Barco has acquired Medialon, according to a letter sent by executives from both companies to Medialon customers April 29 and confirmed by Barco officials today. The pairing brings Barco’s popular ClickShare product together with Medialon’s show control capabilities to increase the flexibility and ease of use for customers looking to deliver their messages in easier ways.

“We believe that you, our customer, will enjoy important benefits from this merging of the two companies’ capabilities,” wrote George Stromeyer, senior VP and enterprise GM at Barco NV and Medialon Inc. CEO Alex Carru to Medialon customers in an April 29 letter posted on Medialon’s website.

“You can expect accelerated product feature developments, integration of functionalities into broader media networking platforms as well the global customer service and professional services capacity which Barco provides all its customers today.

“For the time being your current daily business contacts at Medialon remain unchanged, to ensure continuity during the integration period and beyond. We will inform you in a timely manner should any of your contacts change in the future. We also invite you to participate in this exciting journey so we can develop together innovative solutions going forward,” wrote Stromeyer and Carru in their letter.

Although it seems like we’re getting closer to InfoComm 2016 featuring one giant booth with a parent company owning every integrator and manufacturer in the market, the truth is we’re a long way from that.

Still, stay tuned for the next month because we’re guessing this won’t be the last deal before the entire AV integration world convenes in Las Vegas for a week in early June.
