Q&A: Luxul’s Brannon Young on Simplifying Your Network

Published: 2015-08-03

This month CI is shining a spotlight on networking, storage and IP-enabled devices. We’re tackling challenges like overloaded infrastructure, faster bandwidth, network security and how some small businesses are looking to the cloud.

In honor of the spotlight on networking, CI spoke to Brannon Young, director of technical sales at Luxul, about IP networking and a few tips and tricks he has learned along the way.

What would you say to dealers who are already familiar with your product line?

Thanks for being a Luxul dealer! We really appreciate your support. What products or features can we provide to better service you as a custom installer?

What would you say to dealers who are stumbling across your company for the first time?

Besides the usual, what really specific thing differentiates you from your competitors?

Simplicity and CI channel emphasis. Our entire focus is on making IP networking as pain free as possible for custom installers. This starts with the products themselves—commercial grade performance, yet simple to setup and install.

This philosophy of simplicity then carries over into our services: design assistance, lifetime support and education programs—all free to the installer.  Finally, we make our products easy to buy through local distributors, without eroding installer margins by selling products online.

What’s the best sales tip or tactic you’ve come across?

Again, it’s all about simplicity. Be honest, give the dealer straightforward and useful information and then always back them up.

What one technical tip can you offer about installations?

Learn IP addressing like the back of your hand.

Where do dealers typically get tripped up on installs?

Creating and configuring a correct IP addressing scheme.
