Gefen, a part of the Core Brands family, has been involved in AV distribution and signal manipulation for over 15 years. At InfoComm 2016, one product line it was showing was a new iteration of 600 MHz AV distribution products.
This new product line is HDCP 2.2 and 1.4 compliant and supports 4K at full HDMI 2.0 specification. Gefen was demonstrating these products passing 4:4:4 color at 60 fps. That is important as it lets you know that the device is capable of passing along the signal without chroma subsampling.
The splitters also support multiple layers of “cascading,” which makes it possible to daisy-chain several splitters to create a large system capable of distributing one AV content to hundreds of displays. Understand, these are not matrix switches but 1:8, 1:4 and 1:2 splitters. These three products will be shipping by the middle of third quarter.
Still, if you are needing a connection to send digital signage or another distributed signal to 31 4K displays, this would be one device that could do it. The splitter will be shipping by the end of third quarter.
On the other side of signal distribution are matrix switchers. Gefen’s new line of matrix switchers feature Gefen’s fast switching technology that minimizes picture interruption when changing from one source to another.
The new 4×1 switcher can route up to four 4K 600 MHz sources to one display. It will ship in third quarter 2016.
The 4×4 matrix allows you to send any of four connected sources to up to four displays. The switchers should be shipping by in early 2017.
One thing that makes Core Brands different is their online store. It isn’t a place to sell to just anyone. However, it is one of the more user-friendly interfaces to get Gefen, or any of the Core Brands products through a website that is reminiscent of an online shopping experience.
