As the vice president of integration operations at Bluewater Technologies, I have found my journey in the AV industry isn’t just about overseeing operations — it’s about passion. More specifically, it’s about passion for connecting people with solutions and passion for creating experiences that stick with you. You know…those moments that just matter. It’s more than just a job for me; it’s a way to connect stories and transform them into something truly impactful.

Connecting People Through AV Integration

At Bluewater, we don’t just finish projects: We craft experiences. (Sounds a bit cliché, right? Nevertheless, it’s true.) We dig deep to understand what our clients really need. Sometimes, they don’t even realize what’s possible until we show them. It’s our mission to elevate their ideas. And here’s the kicker: We aim to make every space not just functional but also unforgettable. We’re talking seamless, memorable and just plain better.

One key? Integrity. From day one, we have seen ourselves as partners with our clients. Honest, long-lasting relationships are non-negotiable. And our team? They’re top-notch. They don’t just meet standards — they set standards. This reputation for excellence sticks with us long after the project wraps up.

Operational Excellence: Adapting in a Rapidly Changing Industry

Operational excellence isn’t just a buzzword here: It’s our standard. In an industry that’s always shifting, we have to keep moving forward. Change management? It’s our bread and butter. If we’re still doing things the same way that we were six months ago, something’s wrong. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable is part of the job.

A strong team, clear feedback and constant system checks keep us sharp. We can’t afford to fall into a routine because, if you’re not ahead, you’re already behind.

So, what’s my advice? What follows are five tips that can drive operational excellence in the AV industry:

  1. Understand Your Client’s Story: It’s about more than just delivering what they ask for. It’s about digging deeper, finding out what they really need and then surpassing those expectations.
  2. Continuous Improvement: This industry doesn’t wait for anyone. Keep up with new tech and processes. If you haven’t updated your approach recently, you’re already late to the party.
  3. Effective Communication: This is key. Keep it clear, consistent and proactive, both internally and with clients.
  4. Train and Support Your Team: Your team is your greatest asset — so invest in them. Provide tools, training and an environment that prioritizes feedback.
  5. Integrity and Transparency: Trust is everything. Be honest in all your dealings and avoid hidden costs. This not only builds long-term relationships but also sets a high standard of excellence.

The Importance of Continuous Learning and Innovation

Your team is everything. I come from a family of coaches and teachers, so teamwork and tenacity were in the air that I breathed growing up. At Bluewater, we foster a strong sense of camaraderie and culture. This is crucial, especially as we navigate the uncharted waters of this post-COVID-19 world. There’s a lot we don’t know, but we’re pushing forward — together.

So, what drives me? It’s the connections we make and the impact we create. Whether it’s the smiles during a product launch or simply knowing our work has made someone’s job easier, those are the moments that make it all worthwhile. We are all in. And let me tell you: The more you invest in this industry, the more it gives back.

As a woman in the AV industry, I’ve learned that the only limits are the ones we set for ourselves. This industry is full of trailblazers. Now, it’s our turn to decide where we go next. My job? To clear the path for those who follow. I want to be a bulldozer, making the journey smoother for others. Power comes in numbers, and, as AI changes the game, it’s time to lace up our boots and get going. The journey won’t be easy. But the rewards? They make it worth every step.

At the end of the day, no matter what industry you’re in, it’s about understanding your clients’ stories, having the right people in the right roles and keeping communication clear, both inside and out. We follow up, follow through and make sure our users are set up for success with the right tools and training.

In this industry, staying stagnant isn’t an option. You have to stay educated, keep moving and never stop growing. That’s how you continue to lead — with passion and purpose.
