AMX Builds Playhouse to Support Local Charity

Published: August 25, 2015

It’s always a good feeling when your company can get together to give back to the community. Last month, the AMX marketing team participated in its fourth CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Parade of Playhouses, an event to benefit abused and neglected children.

The ‘Parade’ is made up of creative playhouses, built and donated by local companies at Dallas’ NorthPark Center, July 10-26. This year’s event marked the 20th year that CASA and NorthPark Center have partnered to raise awareness and funds for Dallas CASA, an organization dedicated to finding safe, permanent homes for abused children.

AMX’s ‘Buckaroo Mountain Adventure’ playhouse was one of 16 structures completed. It turns any backyard or play space into an expedition of the imagination for kids of all ages, according to the company.

“Whether they want to race up the rock wall to see who can ring the bell first, plan a daring escape on the hideaway fold-down table or take a hammock snooze while listening to some tunes, there’s always a new adventure that awaits,” AMX explains in a release about the project.

“Buckaroo Mountain was probably one of the most fun we’ve had building these playhouses,” says Jeff Kindig, vice president, AMX Marketing Strategy. “For this one, we tried to think up how many different adventures we could pack into a single space. We also got to throw in a bunch of cool extras this year but knowing how much the proceeds will benefit so many great kids in need is what really makes building the house fun.”

The dual-level design features a downstairs clubhouse with an in-wall hideaway table, a Castaways Hammock and an integrated JBL sound system featuring dual 6.5-inch JBL marine loudspeakers and a 160 watt JBL marine amplifier with a 3.5mm stereo input to support any mobile device.

The upstairs porch includes an open air deck with integrated rock climbing wall, winner’s bell and a beam and hook to hold the included Lifetime Products Kayak with custom seat and paddle. When it’ s time to venture away from the playhouse, a 20-inch Diamondback Mountain Bike and Mongoose Helmet are waiting outside as well as an Ozark Trail 4 Person Tent, two Ozark Trail sleeping bags, two water bottle backpacks and a Vivitar Waterproof DVR Camcorder to record all the fun.

Time Lapse: Building ‘Buckaroo Mountain Adventure’

“These playhouses represent our hope for abused and neglected children in Dallas,” says Kathleen M. LaValle, Dallas CASA executive director and president. “Some children dream of having their very own fantasy playhouses, but abused children dream of having safe and stable homes. We want all children to have loving and permanent homes. Sadly, almost half of abused children in protective care in Dallas County do not have CASA volunteer advocates. We look forward to the day when we have enough volunteers for each child to have an advocate.”

“We all look forward to the playhouse build each year because it’s a great team-building event for our department and it’s exciting to figure out what kids would enjoy the most in a playhouse,” says Lauren Kubicki, project manager, AMX Marketing.

“The level of creativity and competition in these playhouse designs is pretty astonishing. There really are some amazing houses and in the end it’s good to know everyone is building for a great cause,” adds Craig Weymouth, social media manager, AMX Marketing.
