If you’re not yet familiar with the Ice Bucket Challenge, you soon will be. This recent social media phenomenon challenges every nominee to dump a bucket of ice water on his or her head or donate to an ALS charity… or both!
We’ve watched this trend spread like wildfire across Facebook and YouTube as more and more of our friends and family, and even celebrities and politicians, take part. Just this week, Charlie Sheen and George W. Bush became the most recent participants, each with their own spin on the challenge.
ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease (sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Fortunately, the challenge is working. As of last night, the ALS Association has received $31.5 million in donations, compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year.
And it’s coming for us. Yesterday Jeff Singer, Global Marketing Director at Crestron Electronics, took one for the team—literally—on behalf of Crestron, after the company was nominated by Moss Telecom. He then nominated Sapphire Marketing, Digital Projection, and AVNation to do the same. Will they step up to the challenge?
UPDATE: Crestron has said they made a donation to the ALS Association as well (go Crestron!), and that Jeff Singer has also made a private donation of his own. As is standard for the company not to reveal any financial information, donations amounts have not been disclosed.
Watch as Jeff Singer takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge:
Wait, what did Jeff use to dump the ice water on his head? Is that a remote control? Are we about to see some new, tech-inspired ways of performing this challenge?
Stay tuned.
