PPDS Redefines Retail Fashion with Videowalls at Modivo Store

Published: 2021-11-09

PPDS recently announced that it helped reinvent retail fashion at the Modivo store by installing Philips videowalls and tablets to create an automated “phygital” shopping experience.

The company revealed that Modivo, a leading online fashion retailer, has an online catalogue of more than 70,000 items across nearly 250 brands. Located inside the 85,000 sqm Galeria Mlociny shopping mall in Warsaw, the store houses brands like Armani, Boss, Calvin Klein, Diesel, DKNY, Guess, Kurt Geiger, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, among others.

According to PPDS, the Modivo store opened during the pandemic and was looking to offer a revolutionary, convenient and safer shopping experience to customers by fusing the benefits of the physical and online shopping experiences.

Combining Physical and Digital Shopping with PPDS

Speaking on the launch of the project, Modivo says that it worked with technology partner Nanovo (a Warsaw-based specialist in creating digitized spaces for enhanced engagement) and PPDS to bring a total of 110 x 55” Philips X-Line 4K Android displays for installation throughout the store (100 units of the Philips 55” X-Line 55BDL2005X videowall display and 10 units of the Philips 55” X-Line 55BDL3107X videowall display).

Designed for 24/7 operation, and with FailOver security (meaning screens never go dark), the installation includes an imposing, near bezel-less 25 x panel Philips videowall with in-built Pure Colour Pro software for delivering higher luminance through custom color temperature. According to Modivo, this creates an illuminating and immersive environment for visitors when entering the store, while also catching the attention of other passers-by.

Elaborating further, Mariusz Chludzinski, sales director, Poland at PPDS, says, “With consumer shopping behavior already shifting online, Modivo had a vision to bring the same speed, convenience, and cost benefits to their physical stores. A volatile global pandemic added to the mix also meant that the store had to be designed in such a way that it could continue operating throughout the most challenging conditions. Ensuring customers are able to have a comfortable, safe and enjoyable shopping experience. To achieve that, a partner was needed that shared the vision for innovative change to support the business and its customers…At PPDS, we share that vision.”

Redefining Retail Fashion at Modivo

According to the company, the new Modivo store design does not have any stock on the shop floor, thus creating an open and cleaner look with fewer staff. Instead, dedicated sofas with a theatre of digital displays showcasing the latest fashions, collections and company branding are arranged for customers who can also browse the store’s catalog by using a touch tablet.

Running on Nanovo’S proprietary digital in-store platform, SIGNIO, all the stock is displayed on an easy-to-use interface and is directly linked to the store’s adjoining ‘automated warehouse’ or stock room holding more than 100,000 items.

Modivo clarified that once a customer has made their selection, they then enter their mobile number on the tablet to receive a unique code which is presented at the fitting room entrance. Once scanned, the customer is then directed to one of eight available fitting rooms (named after major fashion capitals around the world, such as Prague, London, Milan) and their items are made available behind the sliding doors located within the fitting room.

Furthermore, each fitting room, which also contains customizing features, is equipped with a wall mounted touch screen display that shows their initial selection. According to PPDS, this display is connected directly to Modivo’s warehouse logistics system thus allowing customers to view and amend their selections (for instance, by adding new items and sizes), which will then be delivered within moments. The company added that this feature removes the hassle of stepping out of fitting rooms or asking friends to search for items.

Finally, after the customer has made their final decision, they can confirm their order using the display and leave the fitting room empty handed. In a statement, the company disclosed that the selected items are delivered to the collection point where the customers make the final purchase.

Addressing the reformation of this shopping experience, Dariusz Sobczak, board member, Nanovo, adds, “The retail sector, in the future, will see some incredible changes. MODIVO fits into this transformation by offering its customers a top-of-the-line omnichannel model. It comes down to transferring the experience that customers know from the online world to a physical store’s space.”

Chludzinski further concludes, “This unique set-up allowed MODIVO to implement a multi-channel sales strategy that achieves their goals of brand efficiency and robustness in an ever-evolving retail landscape. Like ourselves, Modivo is an innovator – recognizing the challenges and changes in the market and not content with simply following what’s done before…The benchmark for retail has been set. With PPDS, the new Modivo more than stands out in the crowd and provides an experience that customers will want to enjoy time and time again.”

Highlighting the Benefits of Philips X-Line at Modivo

PPDS and Modivo also highlighted other benefits of the installation which include:

  • Smart remote updates: Modivo added that it will push new promotions and product selections across displays instantly.
  • Remote upgrades: Nanovo revealed that new software updates will be pushed remotely to ensure all displays are running smoothly with the latest features and stability requirements.
  • Versatile connectivity: Android and CMND & Control enable easy integration of Nanovo’s proprietary digital in-store platform, SIGNIO.
  • Organized shopping experience: A clean store design with no hangers or clutter resulting in a cleaner, hybrid store model.
  • Cost efficiency: According to Modivo, having no display products leads to fewer staff and less maintenance thus keeping costs down for the consumer.
