VR at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada: World’s Oldest Profession Embraces New Technology

Published: April 4, 2018

What happens in your VR headset stays in your VR headset.

If you thought AV and security integration was an unusual element at strip clubs, marijuana dispensaries and prisons, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

The Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Carson City, Nev., which touts itself as “the world’s most famous legal brothel,” has been “experimenting with virtual reality technology and plans on fully incorporating VR tech for the bordello patrons, melding the sex industry’s newest technology with the world’s oldest profession,” according to one of the most unique press releases and compelling story pitches I’ve ever seen. Dennis Hof, owner of the Bunny Ranch and star of HBO’s “Cathouse” series, has been “bringing VR to his house of legal prostitution in a number of ways due to popular demand from his customers,” according to the announcement.

“I’ve been hearing about this technology for a while now from a lot of the top porn stars that we get coming to work at the Bunny Ranch,” said Hof in the press release.  “The advantage that we have over the adult film industry is that we are the real thing — up close and in person.

“Several of our courtesans have been utilizing VR technology in unexpected ways to enhance the brothel experience, and this caused me to really think about the future applications of this amazing tech,” he said.

“VR gives me an edge, and allows me to offer visually enhanced sexual experiences that a lot of potential clients might want. If you think creatively, there are a plethora of uses for this technology,” says Bunny Ranch employee Alice Little.

Did you know there are people who enjoy engaging in “adult” activities with explicit Japanese animated characters? Neither did I, but VR can apparently help these fantasies become a reality for those who are interested in such things.

The client wears a headset and views the VR adult film featuring animated characters, while Bunny Ranch employee Alice Little—who brings her Oculus Rift Touch to work every day—mimics actions to achieve this unique fantasy.

“VR gives me an edge, and allows me to offer visually enhanced sexual experiences that a lot of potential clients might want. If you think creatively, there are a plethora of uses for this technology,” Little said.

Hof plans to buy at least 12 more VR headsets so the option is available in each of the Bunny Ranch’s VIP bungalows. Hof sees several possible uses for the technology as VR becomes more sophisticated, such as allowing his clients to simulate an intimate encounter with their favorite celebrities, he says.

VR at Bunny Ranch: What Comes Next?

And, while using VR to connect with the Bunny Ranch may seem extreme for some readers, surely it can also serve as a reminder that technology today is almost limitless and you should be exploring the unexpected. Your client just might surprise you by saying yes.

Integrators have struggled to understand how they can use VR in their businesses, despite being shown its potential in design and military training applications, education markets, to name a few.

While we don’t expect any of our readers to make the Bunny Ranch a client, the mere fact that the owner of this establishment is thinking about new ways to incorporate technology into his business should tell integrators many of their clients are probably going through the same process and could use their expertise to guide them.
