Ford AV is hosting its 13th annual Memorial Golf Classic at Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Course in Aurora, Colo., on Monday, with a four-man scramble format that raises money for cancer research.
Company founder and president Jim Ford and his wife/CEO Claire started the Memorial Golf Classic in honor of David Schultz, who started his career at Ford in 1978 and died from pancreatic cancer in 2003. Since then, Ford AV has made it a corporate goal to raise awareness and gather funds in support of cancer research by hosting the tournament.
All proceeds from the Ford AV Memorial Golf Classic will be donated directly to cancer research in an attempt to find early detection and treatment of cancer. Ford has raised more than $300,000 since the tournament began.[related]
Each year, cancer claims the lives of nearly 600,000 people in the U.S., including staff member Ed Knoll this year.
The Ford AV Memorial Golf Classic features friends and family members of Ford, members of cancer support groups and industry professionals from some of the best-known manufacturers in the AV industry.
Ford AV recently served as AV integrator for FlyingTee in Jenks, Okla., so golf has always been a big part of what they do.
Installers put in more than 60 high-brightness displays to show patrons the arc of their tee-offs, where their ball lands, and how each hit compares with their opponents’ shots. Each guest bay has its own computer system running the graphics to avoid issues that often surround having one massive server. There’s one server in each bay and a kiosk shared by every two bays. After creating network systems for each bay’s screens to run on, Ford AV outfitted the sports bar and date night lounge with TVs.
