A lot has changed in access control over the past few years. Tech decision makers can now choose options such as wireless, cloud-based access control that offer numerous benefits, including better cyber security measures.
Jeff Perri, president and COO of cloud-based access control provider ProdataKey, chatted with Commercial Integrator about how options have evolved and why cloud-based access control opens up possibilities to truly leverage the category.
ProdataKey’s pdk.io cloud platform allows for complete system management and control through any web connected device, with the flexibility of networked, PoE (power over Ethernet), and its WiMAC (Wireless Mesh Access Control) technology that communicates wirelessly between doors for up to one mile, saving up to 75 percent over traditional wired systems, according to the company.
On Benefits of a Wireless Access Control Solution:
Perri: We’re a network and POE [power over Ethernet] connected platform and, again, following the pace of this whole IoT platform. Our wireless platform is rated at a mile line of sight, 450-foot average indoors. It depends on obstructions and that type of thing.
The wireless is a fantastic solution to get from A to B where you can’t get a wire or it’s going to be too cost prohibitive.

The host, web editor Adam Forziati, has a background in radio and is looking forward to providing listeners with an entertaining, informative audio forum for all topics affecting the industry.
Podcast Release Schedule
We plan to release a shorter, single-topic episode once every week or two on Fridays (just like this episode). But at the end of each month, we’ll also drop a longer, in-depth episode of the AV podcast with features like Editor’s Desk, CI Monthly News Spotlight, CI’s Project of the Month, and more.
