Microsoft’s Executive Briefing Center in Redmond, Wash., is a hub of innovation and partnership. Within the building, the software giant was renovating a customer-facing area to include a welcome wall to showcase the innovative solutions it creates in partnership with major companies across all industries.

That goal would be fulfilled by a Planar direct-view LED wall that AVI-SPL designed and integrated. This large, multifunctional, and seamless display wall can be programmed to welcome different audiences and delivers the ‘wow’ factor to guests on guided tours of the area.

Finding The Right Display Solution for the Welcome Wall

This project came to AVI-SPLI through Green Room, an interior design firm hired to renovate the space. They had designed the space and had the concept for the display and where it would be. Under Microsoft’s recommendation, AVI-SPL were invited to design and integrate the visualization display solution.

Green Room and Microsoft looked to AVI-SPL to design and integrate a system that would meet a quick turnaround and deliver the experience Microsoft was seeking.

The display solution is an eye-catching wall of 151 modules with a total of 11,860,992 pixels. It also has seamless 90-degree corner and custom trim on the edge to give it a finished look. One of the benefits of wall’s design is that it is distinctive while also blending in elegantly with the room.

Installation of the Welcome Wall On A Short Deadline

A tight timeline was one of the biggest challenges AVI-SPL had to overcome. AVI-SPL succeeded, completing the project in just two months. In doing so, the company accomplished what other integrators told Microsoft would not be possible. Early in the process, the company walked the customer and contractor through preparations required for the wall, which would include areas for the data cabling.

Because Microsoft wanted a video display that goes to the floor, AV-SPL worked with Planar on designing the ventilation system. Another challenge was the getting the right architectural look. AVI-SPL worked closely with Planar, Microsoft, and Green Room to develop the wall over several iterations.

The “Wow” Factor

“Wow’ describes this project perfectly. As this is the centerpiece and primary focal point as you enter our flagship EBC facility, our goal was to peek curiosity, showcase innovation, and influence the customer journey….this assists in all of that! We truly put AVI-SPL to the test with this project as our design changed two months prior to delivery,” said Dave Buscarino, Microsoft global design, technology and infrastructure lead.
