3 Questions with Shure All About Home Office Audio

Published: November 9, 2020

Kevin Smith of Shure joins us today for another episode of CI 3 Questions — this time, we’re focusing on where audio fits in to the remote office setup.

Commercial Integrator: How has the need for most employees to work remotely affected Shure?

Kevin Smith: I think the biggest challenge is always communication. Some departments were more prepared to work from home than others, but our first order of business was to make sure that departments that interface with customers were up and running really quickly.

We’ve also learned to communicate more effectively across our organization in video means. In terms of opportunities, we heard from the market that people were using our Aonic Listening and home recording products for video recording, so we’ve put effort into supporting those.

CI: Where does home audio fit in to the remote office?

KS: I was doing 8 hours of video meetings on a daily basis when we first started working from home. You find yourself really fatigued if the audio quality isn’t excellent. My microphone needed an update, and doing so translated to a more natural meeting experience.

CI: What does Shure offer in terms of home office audio?

KS: Many people prefer going with the Aonic 50 headphones which are comfortable to wear all day, feature bluetooth for computer connection, and a quality microphone.

I prefer the MV5, a desktop USB microphone with a Shure earphone for monitoring. But soon we have a new microphone coming out, the MV5-C, which is a product like the former version but with a little DSP that makes speech intelligibility that much better.

The MV5-7 podcast microphone definitely adds the top of the line experience for customer-facing audio quality.
