Daktronics’ DSE Showcase Hits the Road

T-Mobile Arena will be part of the Digital Signage Guided Installation Tour.

Digital Signage Expo ranks as among the most important shows on the calendar every year for Daktronics—and that’s only in part because of the amount of work the company has done in and around Las Vegas over the years.

Because of the show’s size—and the ability to check out what the competition is doing while also having conversations with high rollers about potential new opportunities—it’s a chance to get a lot of business done in only a few days, says Tyler Campbell, marketing specialist for Daktronics’ spectaculars division.

“It’s a small enough show that you’re able to look at everything that’s there, so you can be a little more intimate,” says Campbell. “It’s a bit more tight-knit than some of the bigger shows where there’s no way to see everything and we sometimes sort of blend in with what others are doing.”

This year, Daktronics will once again play a major role in the annual Digital Signage Guided Installation Tour, which takes attendees to four locations around Las Vegas on the day before the DSE show floor opens. This year’s are T-Mobile Arena, Beerhaus in the Park, Harmon Corner and Topgolf Las Vegas.

“There’s only so much you can show in a 20×30 booth, so it’s a nice opportunity for us to be part of this tour and for so many people to get to see the work we did and find out more about it,” says Campbell.

Daktronics installed 25 video displays around the 650,000-square-foot T-Mobile Arena and Las Vegas’ first see-through display outside the building. The National Hockey League awarded an expansion team to Las Vegas starting with the 2017-2018 season. In the meantime, T-Mobile Arena will host about 150 events every year, including concerts, boxing, mixed martial arts, awards shows and special events such as visits from the Harlem Globetrotters, rodeo and other marquee attractions.

Four Daktronics displays fill the corners between the main displays of the center-hung scoreboard at T-Mobile Arena and measure 21 feet high by 6 feet wide. On the underside of the center-hung board, four displays measuring 7 feet high by 14 feet wide provide additional viewing opportunities for seats that are closer to the playing surface with supplemental content to the main displays.

DSE represents “such a wide audience and diverse group of people” that it presents myriad opportunities for Daktronics every year to see familiar faces and meet new people with unique challenges they want solved, says Campbell.

“We can help them with just the LED portion of their project or we can do it all for them,” he says. [related]

Daktronics’ booth will feature a 1.9mm UHD LED video display that measures 7 feet by 12 feet and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920. It’s been a popular attraction in the company’s booth for the past few years, says Campbell, and represents a part of the company’s LED offering.

The booth will also have what Campbell describes as “a wall of LED modules,” including five or six using indoor pixel pitches, another eight with outdoor pixel pitches and a curved LED podium. The back of the booth will have a three-screen LCD video wall that reflects Daktronics’ acquisition of Adflow Networks last year, and there will be a section dedicated to using digital signage in transportation settings.

One final attraction: Daktronics will have virtual reality goggles available featuring videos of the future new home of the NFC champion Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in which Daktronics will provide several large displays before it opens in late summer or early fall.

Campbell is excited about the growth in the UHD market and expects to see more of that reflected on the DSE show floor.

“It’s really blossomed in the last few years,” he says.
