Video Weekly News: Microsoft Delays, Planar Acquired, Extron’s New Addition

Published: August 17, 2015

In the first edition of Commercial Integrator‘s new video weekly recap, editor-in-chief Tom LeBlanc takes a look at a few pieces of industry news from the past week.

There was considerable buzz around Microsoft’s announcement that the Surface Hub release date is officially scheduled for January 1, 2016. But is that really a big deal, and what are Microsoft’s integrator partners like AVI-SPL, Whitlock and Red Thread saying about it?

There were also some pretty big acquisitions last week. Planar was acquired by Beijing-based LED display manufacturer Leyard Optoelectronic Co. and Extron made a purchase of its own—Switzerland-based video capture software developer Entwine AG. What do these acquisitions mean for their respective channels?

Lastly, Tom points to our first-ever Brand Preference Survey, released online last week. Please take a moment to tell us which brands you trust—the results will be featured in the November issue of the magazine. Take the survey here.

Of course, last week was also the release of this year’s 40 CI Influencers Under 40. Check out who made the list! You’ll hear more about this in next week’s video recap.
