New Displays, On Demand Options Pump Up Marriott Fitness Center
Marriott Hotels wanted to go beyond the traditional housing and room experience for its patrons. Addressing one area in particular toward this goal, Marriott recognized that its existing fitness centers were often aesthetically uninspiring and unengaging, and limited in (often aging) equipment offerings. The hotel chain turned to long-time technology partner LG Electronics to help excite and engage fitness-oriented travelers.
LG needed to not only modernize the fitness space in terms of technology, but also in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Exemplifying how this challenge was addressed, Marriott Hotels implemented a 3×3 video wall of 47-inch LG display panels along with LG soundbars in its downtown Charlotte, N.C.,property’s newly renovated fitness center.
Marriott was able to breathe new life into the hotel fitness experience in just a few months. Used with Fitness on Demand’s massive catalog of virtual fitness classes, the LG displays were daisy-chained to create an immersive workout experience, whether guests are in a group setting or a “solo” fitness session. There is no cost to guests for the on-demand services, providing extra incentive to use the facilities.
The addition of “solo spaces” allows for “bite sized” one-to 15-minute workouts, rather than participating in a 30-, 45-or 60-minute class. To ensure that design aesthetic remains consistent throughout participating Marriott hotels, a “design guide” will be distributed to provide hotel staff with a standardized yet customizable approach for the appearance of finished fitness spaces, which also will help cut design costs.
