Ledman ODA Technology Powers Africa’s Largest LED Billboard

In a project for the Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising industry in Africa, two mega digital billboards with a combined area of 944 sq.m. have been unveiled along the N1 highway in South Africa. These structures, now the continent’s largest LED advertising screens, are powered by the Ledman cutting-edge N-Series outdoor LED displays, featuring the proprietary ODA (Optical Direct Assembly) chip technology.

The project, delivered by Ledman’s partner Viron Group in collaboration with NAD Properties and RL Media, represents a significant leap forward in visual communication and public advertising infrastructure.

Superior Technology Meets Extreme Demands

Chosen for its performance and reliability, the Ledman N10 model — with a 10mm pixel pitch — was deployed across the vast display surfaces. According to the company, the decision was driven by the need for a solution that could withstand South Africa’s intense sunlight and variable outdoor conditions while delivering visual clarity.

The patented ODA technology by Ledman emerged as the key to resolving these challenges, says the company. This innovative chip packaging process enhances brightness uniformity, color fidelity and overall module robustness. These factors form the foundation for the display’s specifications which include the following:

  • Ultra-High Brightness of 11,000 nits: Guarantees perfect visibility and vivid imagery even under direct, full sunlight.
  • High Refresh Rate of 7,680Hz: Ensures flicker-free viewing and delivers camera-ready performance, eliminating scan lines during video or photo capture for seamless media coverage.
  • Robust and Weatherproof Design: Engineered to endure harsh environmental conditions, ensuring long-term durability and minimal maintenance.
  • Energy-Efficient Operation: Achieves high luminous efficacy, providing brilliant visuals while optimizing power consumption for sustainable operation.
