The audiovisual over internet protocol (AVoIP) market continues to evolve rapidly, driven by enterprise demands for scalable, integrated solutions. David Tsao, head of the pro AV department at ATEN International, shares insights with Dan Ferrisi, group editor, commercial and security, on trends shaping this dynamic sector and how the company is positioning itself to meet emerging market needs.

Market Reality: Beyond Simple Trends

According to Tsao, the shift toward AVoIP has moved beyond conceptual adoption. “For many organization it’s not just a trend, it is what is happening right now,” he explains. This reality reflects a fundamental change in how enterprises approach audiovisual infrastructure, particularly in transportation, retail and education sectors.

The market’s growth trajectory appears robust, with projections indicating significant expansion through 2030. This growth ties directly to the increasing adoption of software-defined architectures and AI-integrated systems.

Key Trends Driving AVoIP Adoption

According to Tsao, several critical trends are reshaping the AVoIP landscape. These include the following:

  • Large-Scale Deployment Focus: Organizations increasingly require centralized content management and real-time control capabilities across extensive installations. ATEN has responded by conducting rigorous large-scale deployment testing with over 200 units undergoing more than 3,000 power cycling tests.
  • Enhanced Reliability and Integration: Network redundancy has become essential for mission-critical applications. Companies demand solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, particularly IP camera systems using H.265 codecs.
  • Future-Proof Investment Strategies: End users seek solutions that adapt to evolving needs without requiring complete system overhauls. As Tsao notes, modern AVoIP represents “a smart future-proof investment that doesn’t require replacing any everything as needs.”

ATEN International’s Dual-Platform Approach

ATEN International addresses diverse market requirements through two distinct AVoIP platforms, says Tsao. The company’s newest model, the V8662, utilizes H.265 codec technology to deliver low-latency 4K video transmission while maintaining compatibility with existing IP camera infrastructures.

For high-end applications requiring superior video quality, the company offers the VE8962, which uses proprietary codec technology to deliver 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 video under 1GB network bandwidth usage.

“The two different options is really about offering the options to our customer [depending] on whether the project needs [to] concentrate on the video quality or they need [to] concentrate on more integration with the existing IP systems,” Tsao remarks.

Looking Toward an Integrated Future

The evolution of AVoIP extends far beyond traditional signal transmission. Tsao envisions the future of AVoIP where it needs to be “integrated [with] a lot of smart systems [and] smart environments.” This vision encompasses automatic signage systems, centralized scheduling and environment-based triggers that respond to physical conditions like door sensors.
