Editor’s Note: Here, Commercial Integrator’s editors highlight one of our 2025 Integration Award-winning projects. Trinity Dynamics and its work for the Virginia State Police (VSP) Special Investigations and Programs Division (SIPD) earned top honors in the Best Government Project category. Read on to learn why our judges deemed this project the most impressive government project of the past year!

When the Virginia State Police (VSP) Special Investigations and Programs Division (SIPD) embarked on a facility renovation, they recognized that technologically advanced audiovisual technology would be essential for enhancing operational collaboration and communication. The project, which prominent integrator Trinity Dynamics facilitated, transformed two conference rooms and established a centralized server infrastructure, demonstrating how AI-based camera tracking and integrated AV systems can streamline law enforcement operations.

The SIPD renovation centered on creating versatile conference spaces capable of adapting to various operational scenarios. The primary challenge involved designing a large multi-purpose room that could seamlessly transition between round-table discussions and presentation-style meetings while maintaining automated video capture capabilities for remote participants.

A secondary conference room required straightforward BYOD integration for smaller meetings and teleconferences. Both spaces needed to handle sensitive communications with enterprise-grade security, all supported by a robust centralized equipment infrastructure. Supply chain constraints added complexity to the timeline, requiring proactive equipment sourcing and design adjustments.

Trinity Dynamics Delivers Comprehensive Technology Integration

Trinity Dynamics addressed these requirements through a multi-faceted approach that prioritized both functionality and user experience. The large conference space received four strategically positioned PTZ HD cameras powered by SeerVision’s AI-based tracking system, which automatically captures presenters and participants while adapting to furniture layout changes.

Visual presentation capabilities were enhanced through three wall-mounted 85-inch displays, providing clear sightlines for both local and remote participants. Audio reinforcement utilized two ceiling-mounted beamforming microphones, eight ceiling speakers and a wireless presenter microphone to ensure pristine voice capture and reinforcement throughout the space.

The wireless presentation system featured a dual-button Barco ClickShare interface paired with wired BYOD inputs, delivering reliable device connectivity without compromising security protocols. A wall-mounted touchpanel serves as the central control hub, allowing users to select room layouts, manage source content, adjust audio levels and control video conferencing functions.

Streamlined Secondary Space Design

The mid-sized conference room received a more streamlined technology package while maintaining professional capabilities. Two wall-mounted displays (75-inch and 65-inch) and a wall-mounted control panel support straightforward presentations and teleconferencing needs.

Audio communication relies on ceiling-mounted beamforming microphones and speakers, while upgraded table boxes ensure seamless BYOD integration for meeting participants. This configuration provides essential collaboration tools without overwhelming users with complex controls.

Centralized Infrastructure Ensures Reliability for Virginia State Police

Trinity Dynamics established a temperature-controlled server room to house critical system components, including the QSC Q-SYS Core DSP Controller, amplifiers, PoE+ managed network switch and SeerVision AI Camera Controller Server. This centralized approach reduces noise interference in meeting spaces while streamlining maintenance and enabling future scalability.

The server room architecture also supports secure communications requirements essential for law enforcement operations, ensuring that sensitive discussions remain protected throughout the technology infrastructure.

Implementation Challenges and Trinity Dynamics Solutions

Senior engineer Joe Zirkel noted that the project encountered typical integration challenges, including supply chain constraints and scope adjustments. “The client’s original table boxes were insufficient, prompting us to source and install higher-quality solutions,” Zirkel explained. “Additionally, integrating cable TV required careful adjustments to our system’s logic.”

The 90-day installation timeline required careful coordination with SIPD leadership, municipal IT staff and facilities personnel to minimize operational disruption. Working in active, high-security areas including detention spaces and evidence storage demanded off-site equipment staging and off-hours deployment schedules.

Legacy infrastructure presented additional complexity, as many existing systems lacked proper documentation. This required adaptive planning and additional troubleshooting to ensure seamless integration with the new AV technology.

Operational Results Validate Technology Investment

Since installation completion, the Virginia State Police reports having experienced measurable improvements in meeting efficiency, communication clarity and overall operational effectiveness. Automated camera tracking and intuitive controls have simplified collaboration processes, enabling more productive interactions among participants both locally and remotely.

The future-ready equipment design ensures these spaces can adapt to changing operational needs for years to come, providing long-term value for the department’s technology investment.

“I would very much so recommend Trinity Dynamics to other organizations,” said Sergeant Matthew Hand of the Virginia State Police. “The entire Trinity team was easy to work with and showed great attention to detail and got us what we wanted. Trinity’s team left us with the feeling that this was a partnership and one that will continue for years to come if we ever need help.”

Trinity Dynamics and its work on the Virginia State Police SIPD project demonstrates how thoughtful AV technology integration can enhance law enforcement operations while, at the same time, providing essential flexibility and security for sensitive communications. As organizations across sectors recognize the value of AI-driven collaboration tools, projects like this provide a roadmap for successful implementation in demanding environments.
