For the most part, it’s pretty safe to say the commercial electronics market pays very little attention to the happenings in the world of residential consumer electronics.
The Skinny: However, since the fall of the economy the residential world has been increasing its outreach to the world of commercial technologies. Companies like Savant Systems, LLC are leading the way.
The Specs: Savant introduced its SmartLink matrix switch and SmartAudio SSA-3320 this past September during CEDIA Expo 2013. The products, which can be used for a variety of A/V installations, are now shipping.
The matrix switch is available in three versions, each with eight HDMI inputs and eight S/PDIF outputs. Electronics professionals have the option of selecting between four, six or eight HDBaseT 5Play or HDMI A/V outputs. Savant points out the inclusion of the 5Play technology allows electronics professionals to pull a single Cat-5e/Cat-6 cable distances as far as 100 meters to transmit uncompressed HD video, audio and control. The product is engineered for use with Savant’s line of Apple-based control solutions that include iOS devices.
The SmartAudio SSA-3320 is a 2U high product that incorporates 16 analog and 16 digital selectable inputs, 20 outputs (16 analog and four S/PDIF) for the amplification of line-line signals by an amplifier. The SSA-3320 also features volume, balance and seven-band equalizers for each zone of audio.
Solutions: Savant says dealers can use the SSA-3320 and the matrix switch for residential and commercial installations.
