Diversified, one of the largest U.S.-based AV integrators, on Monday announced its first acquisition since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, buying Connecticut-based HB Communications.
Although founded and headquartered in New Jersey, the acquisition of HB Communications gives Diversified a stronger foothold in the Northeast and grows the company’s team in the region.
In a statement, Diversified founder and CEO Fred D’Alessandro said he is excited to welcome the HB team to the Diversified family.
“Expanding our footprint in the Northeast is a strategic step in sustaining the necessary growth to deliver the best possible service for our customers,” he said.

The acquisition represents a move back to the red hot pre-pandemic M&A activity in the AV integration space and could be a sign of things to come as the industry looks to fully recover from the last year and a half.
Although based in the Northeast, HB Communications has clients and projects throughout the country and has worked with the Boston Celtics, William & Mary, The Westgate Las Vegas, WebMD and other high-profile organizations.
In a press release, Diversified said HB’s portfolio of AV, broadcast, collaboration, digital signage, managed services and more will both complement the company’s existing offerings and provide support to address a “growing and changing marketplace.”
In addition to an expanded presence in the Northeast, the acquisition will help Diverisifed answer the call of modern digital media, communications and collaboration needs, the press release says.

The acquisition also brings additional expertise in security and IT to existing HB clients and enhances operations by creating a single dedicated technology partner, the press release says.
“Since we share a common mission centered on connecting people and organizations by empowering communications worldwide, joining Diversified offers a host of exciting new opportunities for our team,” said Dana Barron, CEO of HB Communications, in a statement. “Given Diversified’s reputation of engineering excellence, innovation and dedication within the market, I know that we will achieve great things together.”
