This round three playoff game at the Philadelphia Flyers’ arena, the Wells Fargo Center, is from way back in 2008.
Look how projection technology was beginning to be used to create visual displays on the ice. It is not as advanced as today—two videos are projected at either ends of the court, in diluted colors, not taking up the whole rink as the shows today often do.
Later in the show, images are projected onto the entire court, suggesting that it was easier to do this large-scale projection mapping with still images than with videos. It’s interesting to see how far this technology has come in just six years.
Last but certainly not least, the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League produced perhaps one of the greatest shows of all with crystal clear video resolution and floor-bending illusions.
The Halifax Metro Centre lit up with AV effects just a few weeks ago, showing the NHL teams that they’ve got a few tricks up their sleeve as well.
