7 Ways Da-Lite Dares to Reinvent the Good Old Fast-Fold

Published: June 8, 2016

New Legs— One of the aspects of Fast-Fold that Da-Lite learned that some users weren’t crazy about was the approach to height adjustment. “We heard that people didn’t like the speedy crank to change the height,” Rone says.

So no more speedy cranks. Instead Da-Lite says users can easily adjust screen height while the screen is assembled and upright with micro-tooth height adjustment and that height adjustment can be done in sections when additional height is needed. There’s now a latch-attach to the frame. A lower profile helps glide feet for moving the screen after set-up and there are independently leveling feet for uneven floors.

New Case— “People had a lot to tell us about the case,” Rone says. That makes sense because in rental and staging transport is obviously very important.

“We heard that the handle was very uncomfortable, so we added a more ergonomic handle. One of the biggest changes is going from 16 sizes of cases down to two. So it’s a lot easier to manage a lot of inventory. We also have a better labeling system on the outside. We have updated internal management to protect equipment and we updated the case with four wheels instead of two.”

It’s also now designed to be stored upright or stacked horizontally.

New Surface Forumulation— You know what else is important with a rental and staging screen? That it provides high-quality video. That was a big priority for Da-Lite in the Fast-Fold refresh.
“We see that the surface is becoming more important with 4K,” Rone says. “The challenge is when you fold and HD surface you can actually create a crease or wrinkle and over time damage the optic quality of the surface. You lose resolution in those areas. So we gave our chemists the challenge to develop a 4K-ready surface and not sacrifice the quality. We came up with a brand new 4K-ready surface for rental that is foldable.”

It also offers easy attachment with a new clip design.

New Surface Binding— Finally, a new vinyl design replaces a woven binding and allows for easier attachment and flexibility, according to Da-Lite. There’s a smaller white binding wrap-around option for borderless viewing areas.
