TELUS Health partnered with design firm Gensler and technology integrator Diversified to transform a conventional healthcare space in Calgary into a holistic, immersive preventive care environment. Together, they looked to reduce patient anxiety, strengthen engagement and empower individuals to better understand and manage their health data through design and technology integration.

How Diversified Created an Immersive Patient Experience at TELUS Health Care Centre

At the entry point of the TELUS Health Care Centre, patients can see a striking floor-to-ceiling convex LED welcome wall, visible from outside the facility and designed to set a calming tone immediately upon arrival. This custom-built display features dual pixel pitches and comes with handcrafted wood fins that soften the digital surface and complement the center’s natural design aesthetic. The content — dynamic but serene — transforms a traditionally clinical space into one of warmth, clarity and comfort.

Inside the facility, one of the most innovative features is the Visualization Hub: a series of rotatable interactive touchscreens that serve as a central point of connection between patients and their health coaches. These displays present personalized health metrics and progress in real time, enabling truly collaborative conversations that help patients better understand their goals and take ownership of their care journey.

Curved Projection Mapping, Ambient Audio and Curved OLED Panels Drive The Immersive Experience

Beyond consultation spaces, the clinical rooms themselves were also reimagined as immersive environments. In the MRI suite, for example, curved projection mapping envelops patients in custom-designed visual themes such as ocean scenes or the Northern Lights. These calming scenarios are paired with dynamic lighting and ambient audio to reduce stress and support a more tranquil experience. Patients can even connect their own mobile devices to play music of their choice, creating a deeply personal and soothing environment during medical procedures.

Additionally, curved OLED panels throughout the exam and procedure rooms extend the immersive experience while also enhancing transparency — some displays are visible from outside. This signals a new kind of healthcare experience that is open, innovative and rooted in empathy.

Diversified Emphasizes Visual Cleanliness and Operational Accessibility at TELUS Health Care Centre

Diversified notes that its team executed exacting calibration of projection mapping onto non-flat surfaces and carefully routed AV, lighting and audio cabling to preserve both visual cleanliness and operational accessibility. The team also fully synchronized ambient lighting and sound systems with projection content through sophisticated control system programming, ensuring a unified and immersive experience.

Throughout the process, Diversified says it maintained close collaboration with all stakeholders through regular milestone reviews, prototype testing, and tightly coordinated on-site execution. The result is a fully integrated, immersive environment that enhances patient engagement while upholding the highest standards of clinical safety and architectural integrity.

TELUS Health Calgary Clinic Delivers Overwhelming Positive Feedback

The project at TELUS Health’s Calgary clinic received overwhelmingly positive feedback, both from patients and the professional community. Diversified’s integration of immersive technology played a pivotal role in transforming the environment from traditionally clinical to a warm, calming and deeply human environment.

The clinic has become a physical embodiment of TELUS Health’s philosophy — where technology amplifies care rather than just supporting it. One executive notes that this project represents “technology that doesn’t just support care — it amplifies it.” Real-time access to health information and thoughtfully designed exam rooms encourage open dialogue and help personalize care, making every interaction more meaningful for both patients and staff.

According to Diversified, the project’s recognition at AVIXA InfoComm and continued industry praise further reinforce its success. More than just a healthcare facility, the clinic is a bold example of how empathy-driven technology can elevate standards in preventive medicine. It has positioned Calgary as a leader in innovative, patient-first healthcare design and has become a hub for collaboration and community wellness.
