Radial Engineering Resurrects Audio Brand, Launched Hafler P3100 Amp

Published: 2018-02-09

Resurrecting a legendary audio brand, Radial Engineering has launched its new Hafler P3100 amplifier.

Highlighting the Hafler brand’s products, the company will show its P3100 amplifier.

Dan Fraser, senior engineer, Hafler, says the P3100 was developed to meet the needs of professional recording studio engineers and for the consumer audiophile market.

“The P3100 is a ‘next generation’ amplifier designed for the most demanding audio engineer and audiophile,” he comments.

“It employs Hafler’s legendary trans nova lateral MOSFET technology that at once reduces the length of the signal path of the signal path while providing exceptional stability. This results in remarkeable sonic detail while assuring greater protection for the loudspeakers.”

According to the Canadian audio manufacturer, the P3100 produces 150 watts into 8 ohms, 200 watts into 4 ohms, and its bridged mono mode produces 400 watts to enable its use as a subwoofer amp.

P3100 amp employs robust heat sinks on both sides to eliminate the need for noisy cooling fans, and its use of lateral MOSFETs specifically addresses linear amplifier applications.

Hafler explains the P3100 amp employs robust heat sinks on both sides to eliminate the need for noisy cooling fans, and its use of lateral MOSFETs specifically addresses linear amplifier applications. Hafler asserts the use of lateral MOSFETs provides better sonic performance when compared to the vertical MOSFETs and bipolar output transistors some amplifier designs employ.

“The natural sound, realistic reproduction and musicality have made trans nova amplifiers preferred in many critical installations,” notes Fraser.

“Since Hafler pioneered the use of MOSFETs, they have proven extremely fault tolerant even in abusive situations. This sturdiness enables the amplifier to drive reactive speaker loads without the performance and sound penalties imposed by elaborate protection schemes.”

In addition, Hafler bolsters the trans nova topology through the use of a toroidal power transformer that replaces, previous generations’ use of Elam transformers.

Externally, the P3100’s front panel offers users individual trim controls, along with an LED display to monitor signal presence and overload.

Hafler also points out the amp’s power switch features a soft-start circuit that prevents it from sending potentially damaging turn-on and turn-off signals to loudspeakers. The P3100 also includes a thermal sensing network that will shut the P3100 down in the event the amp is running too hot, and the rear panel offers a choice of balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA and 1/4-inch TRS connections.

MAP for the Hafler P3100 amplifier is $2,000.
