Published: 2015-04-14

Showing how rapidly the broadcast market is evolving through its embrace of next generation technologies, electronics manufacturer Hitachi is demonstrating its new SK-UHD8060 Super-High Vision (8K) camera at its National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show booth (SL-3910) in Las Vegas during the week of April 11-16.

The demonstration comes in advance of the Asian broadcast market’s upcoming 2016 UHD and Super-High Vision broadcast tests. It points out the the second-generation camera delivers 16 times the amount of picture information than the HDTV format.

“8K broadcasting is on the verge of becoming a reality, and it will undoubtedly become the mainstream past 2020,” explains Sean Moran, Hitachi C.O.O. and vice president of sales and operations.

“Broadcasters and production companies have differing agendas when it comes to acquiring imaging technology. Taking into account that the content distribution and profit opportunities are quickly changing, the new TV industry players will benefit from HITACHI’s advanced 4K and 8K production equipment, preparing our customers to deliver content with these new advanced imaging formats as they transition other elements of their production workflow.”

As part of the development process for the camera, Hitachi collaborated with the Japanese broadcast company NHK‘s Science and Technology Research Laboratories.

The company notes the collaborative effort supports Japan’s plans to launch Super-High Vision broadcasts in 2020.
