The Ljubljana Exhibition & Convention Centre has upgraded its visual capabilities by installing the largest fixed indoor LED screen in Slovenia. Located in the venue’s Marmorna Hall, this new display replaces a traditional projection system and sets a modernized benchmark for large-scale event presentations in the region.

The installation features nearly 430 square feet of LED technology from Alfalite, the European manufacturer of LED screens. This project highlights a growing trend among venues to prioritize brightness, clarity and operational security over legacy projection methods.

This upgrade is not merely cosmetic. It represents a strategic investment for a venue that hosts approximately 250 events annually, including high-stakes international gatherings like the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

What is Slovenia’s Largest LED Installation?

The centerpiece of the Marmorna Hall is now a massive LED wall measuring 26 by 16 feet. This creates a total display area of roughly 430 square feet.

The screen utilizes Alfalite’s UHD Finepix MATIX 1.8 AlfaCOB solution. This specific configuration is comprised of 196 individual cabinets. The primary goal of the installation was to overcome the limitations of the previous projection-based system, specifically regarding brightness and contrast.

Unlike projectors which can struggle in well-lit environments, this direct-view LED (dvLED) solution delivers consistent image performance even under strong natural daylight conditions. This reliability is essential for a multipurpose venue that welcomes up to 500,000 visitors every year.

Why Technical Specifications Matter for Congresses

For general entertainment, resolution is important. For medical congresses and data-driven presentations, it is critical. The new wall features a 1.8 mm pixel pitch. This fine pixel pitch ensures that detailed content remains sharp and readable even from close distances.

Sebastián Cabrera, CTO of Alfalite, oversaw the technical direction of the project. He noted that the installation reflects a broader industry shift. Venues are moving away from projection systems to adopt dvLED solutions capable of delivering higher brightness and better contrast regardless of ambient light.

The system also incorporates redundant signal control. This failsafe ensures uninterrupted operation during live events, a non-negotiable requirement for high-profile international summits.

The Importance of European Manufacturing

One of the defining aspects of this project was the client’s requirement for European origin. Alfalite designs and produces its panels entirely in Europe at its headquarters in Spain.

According to the project details, the client prioritized three key factors:

  1. Local manufacturing standards
  2. Operational security
  3. Long-term technical support

Iztok Bricl, CEO of the Ljubljana Exhibition & Convention Centre, emphasized that the quality of the screen and straightforward maintenance were decisive factors. “We organize large congresses with 1,300 to 2,000 participants,” Bricl stated. “We needed a solution that guarantees performance and immediate technical support if required. With a European partner, we have that assurance.”

This preference for local manufacturing highlights a shift in the supply chain strategies of critical infrastructure and major venues. By choosing a European manufacturer, the venue secures a shorter supply chain for spare parts and direct access to engineering support.

Collaborative Execution and Installation

The project was a collaborative effort between Alfalite and the Austrian integrator WALLERIE, a division of LANNER Media. The installation process was executed jointly by Alfalite’s technical team and the integrator.

Efficiency was a priority during the build. The complete mounting process was finalized in just two days. This rapid deployment ensured minimal disruption to the venue’s busy event schedule.

Sebastian Lanner, managing director of WALLERIE, pointed out that fast first-level support is crucial for an international congress center. He noted that combining European-manufactured LED modules with a regional technical presence gives the venue confidence and long-term stability.

A Future-Proof Visual Infrastructure

The transition to high-performance LED technology allows the Ljubljana Exhibition & Convention Centre to cater to the demanding requirements of modern events. Whether displaying intricate medical data or broadcasting live feeds for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the venue now possesses a visual infrastructure that matches its prestige.

The MATIX AlfaCOB technology used in this installation offers high durability and excellent thermal performance. These features are essential for permanent installations that must operate year-round without degradation in image quality.

As Cabrera summarized, “This project shows how European collaboration can deliver technical excellence. It is not only about installing a large screen. It is about providing a future-proof visual infrastructure for one of the region’s most important congress venues.”
