What defines a successful partnership in the demanding world of high-end AV integration? For Genelec and Pedro L. Rosello of Rosello’s Electronics, it is a relationship built on two decades of mutual trust, technical innovation and an unwavering commitment to delivering superior audio performance. The long-standing collaboration highlights how Genelec’s forward-thinking product development — particularly its Smart IP line of networked loudspeakers — empowers integrators such as Rosello’s Electronics to solve complex challenges and exceed client expectations in both commercial and residential markets.

Pedro Rosello’s relationship with Genelec began in 2003, and since then, the audio manufacturer’s loudspeakers have become the go-to solution for all projects. “Every time we do a home theater or any type of [commercial] scenario, [we choose] Genelec,” Pedro Rosello states. From his perspective, this loyalty toward Genelec stems from the company’s ability to deliver exceptional audio quality across a wide range of budgets and applications.

Smart IP: A Game-Changer for Integration

While Rosello’s Electronics primarily focuses on high-end residential installations, Rosello underscores that the firm occasionally takes on unique commercial projects that demand sophisticated, unobtrusive solutions. The introduction of Genelec’s Smart IP series — which combines power, audio and management via a single CAT cable — proved to be a pivotal moment.

“The sound that comes out of these speakers being powered by PoE is just unbelievable,” Pedro Rosello explains. “It goes beyond the actual power by PoE scenario. It’s the flexibility that we have on being Dante and not having to worry about [losing] power or noise in the lines.”

This technology eventually became the key to solving a significant challenge in a recent high-end restaurant project. The client had extremely limited space for equipment racks, making a traditional-amplifier-based system unfeasible. By proposing a Genelec Smart IP solution, Pedro Rosello could power and control numerous loudspeakers using compact PoE network switches, a proposal the client found to be a “…fantastic solution for the project.”

Retrofit Success in a High-End Social Club

For Pedro Rosello, the transformative power of the Genelec Smart IP platform became even more evident in a retrofit project at an exclusive social club. Here, the client needed to add audio to a specific area where running new speaker or power wires was impossible due to solid concrete construction. The only available infrastructure was two CAT6 cables at former point-of-sale locations.

Using Genelec 4430 Smart IP loudspeakers, Pedro Rosello’s team could deliver high-performance audio with no new wiring. Instead, the team integrated the speakers into the existing Crestron control platform via a QSC processor, providing a seamless user experience. For the client, nothing has changed, says Pedro Rosello. “It works on the Crestron selection for the room and the source selection, just like any other room in the place,” he adds.

According to Pedro Rosello, the seamless integration and high-fidelity sound would have been nearly impossible to achieve with other solutions. “If we didn’t have the Genelec IP solution, I don’t [think we could] give them all the parameters that the club required,” he remarks. The project highlights how networked audio simplifies complex installations while maintaining aesthetic integrity and sonic quality.

Paul Stewart, senior technical sales manager at Genelec, chimes in, emphasizing the product’s consistency. “The 4430 [mentioned earlier] gives the same sonic performance of our other 5-inch two-way series,” he reveals. “There’s no difference, so the sonic quality is always the same, no matter which platform you go with.”

Driving the Adoption of Networked Audio

From Pedro Rosello’s perspective, despite the clear advantages of audio-over-IP, its adoption in the high-end residential market has been slower than in commercial AV. Here, he notes that many residential integrators have not yet embraced the technology, often struggling with issues like ground loops and noise that networked audio inherently solves.

Pedro Rosello opines this low adoption as a missed opportunity. He clarifies, “The simplification and standardization of wiring…[means] we don’t have the issue of sending line-level audio through long distances anymore.” Pedro Rosello also notes that the flexibility of audio-over-IP means that background music systems can become unobtrusive and customized according to the micro grill trim-less design, compared to the previous in-ceiling speaker models.

Stewart, too, acknowledges this trend but sees positive signs of change. “We are seeing in different regions across the U.S. more residential and ‘resimercial’ type of installation companies that [now have] networking capabilities,” he says. “And, when [they] find out about Genelec, it just makes more sense.”

Stewart then recalls Pedro Rosello’s own visit to Genelec’s booth at InfoComm 2024 where the two discussed the opportunities available for the Smart IP 4330 range of speakers in the residential and commercial spaces. Pedro Rosello further emphasizes that the visit during InfoComm 2024 was to learn more about the Genelec Smart IP 4330 speakers.

Final Thoughts

This forward-thinking approach is precisely what has made the partnership between Genelec and Rosello’s Electronics so successful and enduring — it is a collaboration built not just on products, but on a shared passion for innovation and sonic perfection.
