Addressing the specific needs of medium-sized collaboration spaces, Alfatron Electronics announced the release of its new VB100 Video Soundbar. This all-in-one device combines a 4K camera, microphone array and loudspeaker into a single unit designed to streamline video collaboration.
The launch highlights a growing trend in the audio-visual solutions market: the move toward simplified, “bar” style form factors that reduce cabling clutter while attempting to deliver enterprise-grade performance.
All-in-One Video Collaboration Architecture
The core proposition of the VB100 is its integration of three critical AV components — video, audio input and audio output — into one hardware piece. For facility managers and IT integrators, this approach often simplifies installation in meeting rooms where complex wiring is not feasible.
VB100 Visual Capabilities and AI Integration
The visual system of the VB100 centers on a 4K Ultra-HD camera. However, raw resolution is only part of the equation for modern meeting room technology. Alfatron has incorporated an ultra-wide 120-degree field of view, intended to capture participants seated at the edges of a medium-sized conference table without the need for manual camera adjustments.
To manage how participants are displayed, the device utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) for three distinct operational modes:
- Speaker Tracking: The camera automatically pans or zooms to follow the active speaker, a feature designed to maintain remote participants’ focus on the conversation flow.
- Auto Framing: This mode detects all people in the room and adjusts the frame to fit them comfortably, eliminating wasted screen space.
- Auto Tiling: Perhaps the most distinct feature, this mode can separate up to six participants and place them into individual frames or windows, similar to the gallery view found in software platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Audio Performance and Processing
Audio clarity is frequently cited as the most critical factor in successful remote meetings. The VB100 Video Soundbar addresses this with a built-in microphone array capable of voice pickup up to 16.4 feet (5 meters). This range is generally suitable for standard conference rooms but may require supplemental equipment for larger or oddly shaped spaces.
To mitigate common audio issues found in offices with hard surfaces (glass walls, concrete floors), the unit employs Smart DSP (Digital Signal Processing). This suite includes:
- Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC): Prevents the remote audio from looping back through the microphone.
- Automatic Noise Cancellation: Filters out ambient background sounds like HVAC hum or distant chatter.
- Automatic Gain Control: Balances volume levels so that soft-spoken and loud participants are heard at similar volumes.
According to Tiaan Hoogstad, Marketing Director at Alfatron Electronics, the device was engineered to balance video coverage with audio intelligibility.
“The VB100 carries a rich feature set designed to provide excellent video coverage of meeting participants while the microphone setup ensures clear, highly intelligible audio performance,” Hoogstad says.
Expanded Microphone Options
Recognizing that a front-of-room soundbar microphone may not suit every table configuration, Alfatron has made the system expandable. The company introduced two optional peripherals for organizations requiring a more centralized audio pickup:
- ALF-MIC100W: A system comprising four wireless microphones.
- ALF-MIC100: A single wired microphone solution.
Connecting either of these optional systems overrides the soundbar’s internal array, allowing flexibility for rooms where participants sit further back from the display.
