A period that had once looked like it would be among the busiest of 2020 for the AV industry has essentially been cleansed of all scheduled events after the PSNI Global Alliance canceled the 2020 Supersummit, which was scheduled to be March 30-April 1 in Houston. [related]
The continued spread of and concerns about the coronavirus has also led to many other AV events being canceled or postponed in the past week or so. That list includes the Digital Signage Expo and NAB 2020 in Las Vegas, Enterprise Connect in Orlando, and Almo E4 Experience events in Santa Clara, Calif., and Washington, D.C.
Here’s the full text of the message PSNI Global Alliance executive director Chris Miller sent to all Supersummit attendees this morning:
Meeting planners and organizations around the world are faced with the hard decision as to whether to carry on with events and meetings as planned. We are seeing large conventions and gatherings being cancelled daily with the uncertainty of the spread of the coronavirus, the position of the WHO and individual country and corporate travel restrictions.
We also asked for your feedback earlier this week to see how you felt about travel and attendance to the event.
With all of those factors taken into consideration we have decided to cancel Supersummit ’20. Our speakers and suppliers have been very accommodating and understanding of our position and are willing to work with us to secure a new date in the future.
Please make sure you cancel your hotel reservations if you have not done so already.
Thank you for your understanding and wash your hands!
In an email exchange with CI after sending the initial cancellation notice, Miller says he’s not sure if the Supersummit will be rescheduled later in 2020 or if the alliance will instead focus on planning the event for 2021. For now, they’re “looking at all options,” he says.
“We have several meeting and event commitments both in North America and globally throughout 2020 that may make it difficult to reschedule in 2020,” says Miller, noting the Supersummit is more focused on attendee networking than generating revenue for the alliance or its members.
