Key things to know:

  • Avendor, a New York City-based audiovisual systems integrator, built a 2.5mm-pixel-pitch indoor LED videowall in a 90-degree corner configuration at “The Fantastic World of Portuguese Sardines” in Times Square.
  • The corner wall arrived out of spec, not the true 90-degrees with flat plywood backing the general contractor specified.
  • Avendor’s crew re-engineered the mounting approach on site, working overnight and finishing in 13 hours.
  • The result: every 500x500mm panel flush, with zero visible gaps at the corner.
  • The store’s ocean-themed interior has drawn coverage in The New York Times.

What Did Avendor Install in Times Square?

Avendor, New York City-based, audiovisual systems integrator, installed a 2.5mm-pixel-pitch indoor LED videowall in a 90-degree corner configuration at “The Fantastic World of Portuguese Sardines,” a retail flagship in Times Square. The display measures 2,880mm wide by 1,920mm high, or roughly 9.4 by 6.3 feet, at a resolution of 1152×768. Built from 500x500mm LED cabinets and driven by a NovaStar VX400 all-in-one LED video processor with a BrightSign Full HD media player, the wall wraps the store’s ocean-themed content around the corner, turning an architectural constraint into the room’s focal point.

What Was the Install Challenge?

The defining challenge surfaced the moment the team arrived on site: the corner wall wasn’t the exact 90-degrees with flat plywood backing the general contractor had specified. For a fine-pitch LED wall built from rigid cabinets, an out-of-square corner is the kind of discrepancy that can stall an installation entirely or leave visible seams a viewer standing two feet away would never forgive. With the store’s opening timeline fixed, the discrepancy left no room for a rebuild.

How Did Avendor Solve the Out-of-Spec Corner?

Avendor solved the out-of-spec corner by re-engineering the mounting approach on site rather than waiting for the wall to be rebuilt. Beginning at 5 p.m. and working through the night, the crew adapted the cabinet alignment to the true geometry of the wall, integrated the video processing chain and calibrated the finished display. Thirteen hours later, the wall was complete, with every 500x500mm panel flush and zero visible gaps at the corner.

Why Is a Times Square Install So Demanding?

A Times Square install is so demanding because the environment leaves no margin for visible flaws, according to Avendor Founder and CEO Agil Huseynov. Shoppers stand within arm’s reach of the display, and every surface in the space competes for their attention.

“Times Square is the hardest room in retail. Every surface around you is competing for attention, and shoppers stand close enough to touch the screen,” Huseynov says. “A fine-pitch corner build leaves nowhere to hide. When the wall itself turned out to be out of spec, the answer wasn’t to wait for a rebuild. It was to adapt the engineering overnight and deliver a seamless result before the store opened.”

What Impact Has the Display Had on the Store?

The display has become a signature element of the store’s identity, complementing an interior that The New York Times highlighted in its coverage of the Times Square destination. In one of the world’s most competitive retail environments, the wall anchors the ocean-themed space and helps draw a steady stream of visitors.
