Tech Me Out to the Ballgame

Published: April 6, 2015

The Chicago Cubs opened the 2015 season with a revamped lineup, a new ace pitcher and manager and a 42-foot-by-95-foot Daktronics video board in left field.

The video board is the centerpiece of the team’s $375 million overhaul of the National League’s oldest ballpark and has been the one that’s garnered the most attention during the just-completed offseason.

Other teams who relied on Daktronics for new video boards this winter are the New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Reds enhanced their premium club and added a social media wall, the Seattle Mariners added LED lighting at Safeco Field and several teams worked with Ping HD to add digital signage or menu boards that can be updated instantly without the use of a PC.

Let’s take a trip around the major leagues on this Opening Day to see what technology and other enhancements fans will see when they head to their favorite ballparks this season.
