Hitachi Kokusai HDTV Camera Control Enables Transition from 1080p to 4K

Published: 2018-04-10

Supporting the transition to 4K, the Hitachi Kokusai CU-HD1300F-SI 1080p to 4K HDTV camera control unit offers users 4K 12G-SDI output.

Hitachi Kokusai will display its latest camera control unit at the 2018 NAB show in Las Vegas on April 9-12, and says the CU-HD1300F-SI enables the transition from 1080p to 4K, along with support for high dynamic range (HDR) content.

“While the industry continues to increase its adoption of 4K, there are many content producers who have UHD [UltraHD 4K] production requirements, but aren’t yet ready to make the jump to 4K cameras,” says John J. Humphrey, vice president of business development, Hitachi Kokusai.

“The high-quality 4K output of the CU-HD1300F-S1 extends the versatility of our progressive-scan HD cameras, enabling cost-effective HD and UHD camera investments for these customers.”

Building upon the features set of its previous-generation model the CU-HD1300F, the new CU-HD1300F-SI camera control unit combines SMPTE fiber transport and multi-format HDTV with intercom, teleprompter return and additional signal connectivity in a 2U-high component.

Hitachi Kokusai says the CU-HD1300F-SI can output natively-acquired 1080p and UltraHD 4K over single-link 12Gbps SDI or quad-link 3D-SDI. [related]

The HDTV camera control unit’s 4K functionality is compatible with fiber-equipped, 1080p Hitachi Z-series and SK-series cameras, and it supports HDR when used with HDR-enabled cameras such as Hitachi’s Z-HD5500 and SK-HD1300 products.

Moreover, the CU-HD1300F-SI also works with interlaced Hitachi cameras for HDTV output,

Hitachi also offers a secondary version of the camera control unit, the CU-HD1300FT-S1 fiber/triax model, that offers 4K output for cameras that employ fiber connectivity.

During the 2018 NAB show, Hitachi will also showcase its SK-UHD4000 camera system that allows separate video shading options for HDR and SDR outputs to allow users to select multiple HDR and SDR profiles simultaneously.

“Single camera, parallel HDR and SDR capture provides both creative and financial benefits compared to using separate cameras, enabling shot consistency, while lowering equipment and optional costs,” adds Humphrey.

“The new firmware allows users to do so while optimizing both HDR and SDR pictures.”

Hitachi Kokusai will be in booth number C4309 during the 2018 NAB show. Learn more here.
