Experts Reveal Exactly Where Education Technology Is Headed

Published: 2017-04-05

Gone are the days of clapping erasers as a way to earn praise from your teachers. These days, school and university classrooms are more about learning anywhere from anything at any time through the power of technology.

While this new way of educating takes away some of the personal touch that comes with sharing notes with the kid next to you (or copying your answers off his paper), for the most part, education has taken a quantum leap forward in the past several decades—and that could be just the start.

Our sister site, Tech Decisions, recently highlighted “6 Ways Technology Will Change Education in 2017,” breaking out a short-term crystal ball that focuses on how technology will “significantly change the way students are educated in 2017 and beyond.”

Digital signage, computers and mobile devices are only some of the tools that educators utilize in the tech-savvy classroom of the present. And that change is still coming and will be for a while now. Tech Decisions talked to several technology education experts about what they see coming to a classroom near you during the next five to 10 years.

FEATURED REPORT

We’re seeing things like:

  • A new classroom culture focused on how faculty members view and use technology.
  • Increased comfort with technology, both for the students and especially for the teachers who are more used to pieces of chalk and #2 pencils.
  • More talk about technology, both among colleagues and at industry events, where other districts can share success and war stories.
  • Built-in technology in classrooms rather than having it as an add-on to an existing classroom.
  • The continued transition to AV over IP solutions in classrooms, allowing teachers and school staffers to put more technology on their networks.
  • Getting a bigger blend of technology types into the classroom.
