Welcome to Flashback Friday, where we’re bringing you an oldie but a goodie from the last time March Madness was on everyone’s minds. Check out these high-tech arenas that feature Daktronics video displays, jumbotrons and control systems that are impressive enough to—almost—distract you from the game.

March Madness has begun, which means that for the next few weeks many of us will be glued to our TVs.

In the world of commercial integration, the screens to pay attention to during March Madness are not (only) our own, but the high definition video displays, high tech scoreboards, and enormous jumbotrons at basketball arenas across the country.

Last year, 11 arenas had another benefit of the industry. Daktronics of Brookings, S.D., had video displays and scoring equipment at 44 venues during last year’s March Madness, 11 of those equipped with event support staff on hand for every game.

These facilities have a technician on site two hours prior to and for the full duration of the game. The Daktronics technicians will be able to assist with any display or control system needs that may arise, working closely with the arena staff to ensure that everything is running smoothly. The goal is to make sure that all the equipment is operating successfully and to have experienced personnel on hand in case any issues do occur during the game.

Beyond these 11 arenas, Daktronics had equipment in 44 facilities last year in total: 16 facilities for men’s conference championships, 12 facilities for the men’s national championships, 12 facilities for women’s conference championships and 17 facilities for the women’s national championships.

The equipment varies across each arena. Daktronics supplied one venue, the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D., additional LED scorer’s tables. Their on-site support here extends one step further; Daktronics technicians will run the control room for all games at the Summit League Tournament held in Sioux Falls.

These 11 arenas currently have Daktronics on-site event support:

  • Amway Center – Orlando, Florida
  • Arena at Gwinnett Center – Duluth, Georgia
  • Georgia Dome – Atlanta, Georgia
  • Lucas Oil Stadium – Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Madison Square Garden – New York, New York
