Prysm Announces Kaybus Acquisition

Published: 2017-03-14

Prysm, Inc. has completed its acquisition of Kaybus, Inc., in a move that gives Prysm Application Suite “additional enterprise-grade enhancements” and builds Prysm worldwide employee count to more than 500, according to the announcement.

Kaybus has been known primarily as “a component connector,” says Prysm director of product marketing David Schweer in a telephone interview with CI prior to the official announcement of the acquisition.

“We’re trying to redefine how work gets done, from the tools we use to the content sources and more,” says Schweer. “Prysm is becoming a content work source. Customers had been looking for a better ability to find, create and share content.”

Prysm’s acquisition of Kaybus will help customers in at least four important ways, says Schweer:

  • Security enhancements. New configuration options and flexible tools for administrators will help ensure adherence to strict enterprise security standards;
  • Enhanced language flexibility. New user interfaces and documentation in local languages will encourage adoption among end users during global implementations;
  • Robust search functionality. Enhanced search enables specific content searches across Prysm projects and workspaces, using criteria filters to quickly find data and information; and
  • Enterprise-grade and secure single sign-on. Streamlined approach saves administration time as users leverage sign-on without sacrificing security.

“This is all about the user experience,” says Schweer. “We’d been seeking to develop these capabilities on our own or find someone who could help us develop them.” Kaybus was a natural acquisition target as a former vendor for Prysm, he says. The deal comes about three years after Prysm acquired Anacore in a move that took Prysm from a hardware-only manufacturer into the software realm.

The Kaybus acquisition “accelerates Prysm’s ability to bring innovative capabilities to market,” according to the Prysm announcement. New functionality from this acquisition is expected to begin to appear in Prysm Application Suite starting in the third quarter of 2017.

“Prysm’s heritage is in the display market and people are using that increasingly for global collaboration,” says Schweer. “We have been looking for a way to tie the existing infrastructure into a single experience for end users.”

“The enterprise-grade quality that our customers have come to expect from us will be further enhanced by this acquisition,” said Prysm CEO Amit Jain in the press release. “We are working quickly to incorporate the many advantages that Kaybus brings to Prysm Application Suite.”

All Kaybus employees, based primarily in California and India, are now Prysm employees. There were no layoffs at either company as a result of Prysm’s acquisition of Kaybus.
