LG Teams Up With Automatic Door Company On Transparent OLED Signage

Published: 2020-12-07

Working with an automatic door manufacturer, LG is developing automatic doors that double as a transparent OLED display, giving customers the ability to kill two birds with one stone.

In a press release, LG said the display-doors will be unveiled this week.

The product is a combination of LG’s transparent OLED signage and SuperSign software-based integrated content management solution with automatic sliding glass doors from Swedish company ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems.

In addition to providing touchless, automatic access to buildings and other spaces, the display door presents new opportunities for greeting and interacting with customers via advertising and marketing content.

According to LG, the company’s WRGB technology and self-lighting OLED pixels reproduce accurate colors at high brightness and high contrast, and it can be expanded and customized for a variety of doors and entrances.

The display’s transparency allows objects behind the display to be seen while simultaneously displaying content on tempered glass.

In a statement, Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of LG’s information display business unit, said the partnership will help create new digital environments.

“Our previous large-size transparent OLED displays, which can be found around the globe, proved that transparent OLEDs were a very effective medium and we’re now taking that to a whole new level,” he said.

Christopher Norbye, executive vice president and head of the entrance systems division at ASSA ABLOY, also commented on the innovative relationship between the two companies.

“I am really proud that we, together with LG, can offer our customers this ground-breaking product with the new transparent OLED automatic sliding door,” Norbye said in a statement.

“It will put our customers in the forefront providing them with a fantastic new solution when it comes to customizing brand and customer experiences.”
