Eliminating the Audiovisual Silos with PlexusAV

Published: 2023-06-08

AV-over-IP (Audiovisual over Internet Protocol) was introduced over a decade ago. It has been hailed as a revolutionary innovation in the professional AV industry, removing the scalability limitations of traditional matrix-based setups. Combined with the promise to use standard network equipment and run AV signals over existing networks, it’s easy to recognize why AV-over-IP has grown so much in the last two years.

The introduction of AV-over-IP, however, created an untransparent jungle of closed, non-standardized technologies. If we take a closer look at the history of professional AV signal distribution, it makes sense this happened. The industry has focused exclusively on specifications because it hasn’t always had standards. Manufacturers simply made things up. Outside of the professional AV market, though, these specs mean nothing. There’s not a single AV-over-IP application in the jungle that can cater to every professional AV application. The best-suited technologies for higher education might not be ideal for hospitality or healthcare.

PlexusAV was established to eliminate the complexity of selecting the right AV-over-IP solution for a specific application. PlexusAV has created, designed and engineered one of the first sets of standards-based AV-over-IP solutions ready for the professional AV market. Since PlexusAV is standards-based, it removes stress and pressure from the buyer. When buyers or end-users choose to purchase and tie their company into a particular brand or platform that often does not allow certain brands to connect, there will always be a concern in terms of being able to expand or upgrade that system in the future. PlexusAV removes all those concerns.

With PlexusAV, integrators can design and spec AV-over-IP systems that are backward- and forward-compatible, reliable, capable and future-proof because of the extensive interoperability. In the broadcast industry, interoperability is a requirement. Fortunately, PlexusAV’s parent company, Sencore, has over 70 years of broadcast history. PlexusAV is gathering deep knowledge from decades of success in the broadcast industry to create an interoperable solution that leverages an industry standard, IMPX. By integrating IMPX, integrators can integrate any manufacturer’s technology with PlexusAV.

Many manufacturers have their proprietary platform and the professional AV industry operates in silos. The industry has faced a wave of supply chain distributions that has, unfortunately, negatively impacted integrators that are locked into a proprietary platform. PlexusAV is eliminating the silos by creating an interoperable solution with any technology. PlexusAV users don’t have to be exclusive to IMPX, either. PlexusAV has embraced both emerging and established industry technologies and components, such as USB, to support various distribution methods. As a result, PlexusAV is eliminating the stress of picking an AV-over-IP technology by using one that’s based on a standard. So, integrators never have to worry about picking the right or the wrong one — it just works and will do so in the future, whatever the brand.
