Published: 2021-12-06

Global integration giant AVI-SPL is continuing its aggressive growth-by-acquisition strategy with a newly announced agreement to acquire Kansas City-based collaboration technology provider SKC Communications.

AVI-SPL bills the acquisition as an addition to the company’s unified communications and collaboration (UCC) service portfolio and its hybrid work expertise as customers continue to invest in technology to support a distributed workforce.

SKC, headquartered in Shawnee, Ks., specializes in cloud voice services and unified communications as a service (UCaaS), boasting a customer base throughout the central and eastern U.S. According to the company’s website, it operates offices in Texas, Nebraska, New York, Illinois, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa and Oklahoma, and has a presence in several other states.

AVI-SPL is looking for SKC’s deep expertise in cloud voice services and UCaaS to add to its hybrid work solutions portfolio of Cisco, Google Microsoft and Zoom tools, leveraging SKC’s knowledge of IP telephony and longstanding partnerships with UCaaS providers like Avaya and other cloud-based services.

Along with a deeper UCC voice expertise and a stronger geographic presence, SKC brings to AVI-SPL a more robust e-commerce sales, including an online sales channel that is called the world’s largest direct reseller of Poly headsets. The acquisition will give customers access to a more extensive product catalog.

In a statement, John Zettel, CEO of AVI-SPL, said SKC’s deep relationships with customers will help AVI-SPL add to its offerings.

“We’re thrilled to partner with such an incredibly talented team and welcome them to AVI-SPL,” he said. “As a combined company, we’ll be able to offer more services over more geographies to all of our customers as we look to become the UCC services provider and employer of choice in the U.S. and around the world.”

Tray Vedock, chairman of SKC, said in the statement the combined company will deliver greater value to customers at a greater scale.

“We are excited about the future of the company and what it means for our customers as we continue to build on the foundations created by our incredible employees and partners over the last three decades,” Vedock said.
