Women in AV Opens Mentor Award Nominations

Annual award will be presented during NSCA reception before Drunk Unkles concert at InfoComm 2015 in Orlando.

Women in AV is seeking nominations for its fourth annual WAVE Mentor Award, which celebrates a woman in the AV industry “who exemplifies the important contributions she has made” by working with young women who are exploring a career in the business.

The deadline for submissions for the 2015 award is Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. PST and the award will be presented during the WAVE/NSCA/FSR/Exhibit One reception during InfoComm 2015 in Orlando in June. The reception is scheduled prior to the Drunk Unkles charity concert June 18 at the House of Blues.

NSCA executive director Chuck Wilson, one of the judges for the WAVE Mentor Award, is excited to be involved again in 2015.

“Mentoring is so important to me and for the future of our industry,” he says. “As I’ve gotten to know each of the past recipients and my fellow judges better, I realize how important this award really is and reflected in the continued success and expertise we see in all the nominees.”

Nominees should be women who are “female AV professional[s] who have distinguished themselves within the industry by guiding, supporting and promoting the career development of others,” according to WAVE founder Jennifer Willard.

“It’s such an honor to be the sponsor of this WAVE award as mentoring and supporting women has always been a passion for me,” says Cory Schaeffer, VP of business development at Listen Technologies, which sponsors the WAVE Mentor Award. “There are so many deserving women and to see the caliber of the nominees and winners is so rewarding and it allows me to be associated with some amazing talent in our industry.”

Previous winners of the WAVE Mentor Award are Alex LaBroi, Mid-Atlantic regional sales manager at Media Vision, in 2012; Kirsten Nelson, editor-at-large at Systems Contractor News, in 2013; and Theresa Hahn, director of marketing and business development at Verrex last year.

“Every winner of the WAVE Mentor Award is truly outstanding not only their professional contributions to the AV industry, but more in paving the way for the women who look up to them the find inspiration for the achievements they can expect for themselves so long as they work hard and believe in themselves,” says Willard.
