Who Is Jack Baker and What Is His New Role?
Jack Baker is Whitwam AVI’s new Operations and Project Manager, a role he stepped into after three years as the company’s Maintenance Manager. That tenure gave him a working knowledge of the business and its clients before the promotion.
Baker now oversees maintenance operations across multiple client sites, coordinates engineering resources and monitors project progress. His remit centers on developing tools and processes that improve onboarding, renewals and contract management while supporting colleagues and clearing barriers to consistent delivery.
What Does Baker Bring From His Engineering Background?
Baker brings a broad engineering career that predates his AV work, covering marine engineering, telecommunications, field service and technical systems support. He has held engineering roles at Virgin Media and Ultra Electronics, along with time aboard several mega-yachts, giving him experience in complex, high-pressure technical environments.
That mix shapes how he approaches the job. “My engineering background has helped me bridge the gap between technical teams, clients and business objectives,” Baker says. “While I still enjoy the technology itself, I am equally passionate about building efficient teams and improving service delivery.”
Why Did Baker Move Into the AV Industry?
Baker moved into AV for the balance of technical problem-solving and visible results the work delivers. He points to the satisfaction of finishing a job clients can see and use every day.
“Whether it’s a meeting room that works seamlessly, a control system that simplifies complex technology, or a large-scale AV installation that improves communication, there’s a real sense of satisfaction in delivering something that people genuinely benefit from,” he explains.
How Has Baker Shaped Whitwam AVI’s Maintenance Operations?
Baker has spent the past few years rebuilding the maintenance department around clearer reporting and tighter processes, says the company. His work has centered on client retention as much as day-to-day service.
“Over the past few years, we have significantly developed the maintenance department, introducing clearer reporting, more efficient processes and a stronger focus on client retention,” Baker continues. “It has been rewarding to see both the team and the business grow as a result.”
What Do Clients Say About Working With Baker?
According to Whitwam AVI, clients credit Baker’s ability to make decisions on site rather than routing them through the office. Shehzad Rehman, Global IT Director at INEOS Energy, describes a project visit that changed direction in real time.
“Jack’s visit came at exactly the right moment. With architects and tradesmen on site, having someone who could take our needs on the spot, not third hand, meant we adapted the project there and then, including adding a wall panel and extra AV sockets without a single change request,” Rehman says. “That’s rare. Jack combines real technical depth with a commercial mind, out on site solving problems in real time rather than everything happening back in the office first.”
How Does Whitwam AVI’s Leadership View the Appointment?
Whitwam AVI’s leadership says the appointment is a natural fit during a period of team change. Andrew Pymm, the company’s Technical Director, ties the decision to Baker’s approach with maintenance customers.
“Jack’s enthusiasm and commitment to supporting our maintenance customers has been refreshing,” Pymm adds. “As the wider project team went through a limited reorganisation, it was clear that Jack’s capability and ‘can do’ attitude made him the perfect fit to bring focus to the wider team and support its continued growth.”
What Are Baker’s Goals in the New Role?
Baker’s focus is the sustainable growth of Whitwam AVI’s operations and project management. He plans to build on existing processes while strengthening the client experience and developing the people around him.
“I want to build on the foundations already in place, strengthen the client experience and ensure our processes continue to support the department as it grows,” he says. “Developing the team will be equally important, creating an environment where colleagues can build their skills, confidence and careers.”
