Visionary Solutions, the Santa Barbara, Calif.-based, AV-over-IP (AVoIP) and IPTV manufacturer, announced that Chris Floyd has joined the company as design and support engineer. Floyd brings 15 years of  AV/IT work from both the integrator side and the end-user side.

Key Takeaways

  • Chris Floyd joins Visionary Solutions as design and support engineer.
  • Floyd has 15 years of AV/IT engineering, system design, programming, commissioning and technical support experience.
  • His background includes Crestron, Q-SYS and Extron programming, Biamp Tesira DSP and Dante configuration, and multicast network troubleshooting.
  • He previously worked at TEKsystems and AVI-SPL and spent more than 12 years at UC Davis Health.
  • Floyd has worked with Visionary’s technology in the field from both the integrator and end-user sides.
  • He served in the U.S. Air Force on electronic warfare systems.

Who Is Chris Floyd?

Chris Floyd is an AV/IT engineer with 15 years of professional experience across enterprise and health care environments. His work spans AV, control systems, digital signal processing, networking and collaboration platforms.

His résumé covers the full life of a system: design, programming, commissioning and long-term support.

What Will Floyd Do at Visionary?

Floyd will work on Visionary’s engineering and support team, helping integrators and end users design systems around Visionary technology and resolve issues after installation. The role sits directly between the product and the people deploying it.

What Control and Audio Platforms Does Floyd Know?

Floyd has programmed Crestron, Q-SYS and Extron control systems and configured Biamp Tesira DSP and Dante audio networks. He did much of that work as an AV systems engineer and control systems programmer at TEKsystems, his most recent position before Visionary.

At TEKsystems, he also commissioned divisible-room and multiroom installations. He worked with engineers, integrators, vendors and client IT teams to resolve issues involving network switching, multicast, control systems and AV transport.

What Did Floyd Do at AVI-SPL?

At AVI-SPL, Floyd designed, programmed, commissioned and supported enterprise audiovisual and collaboration systems. He developed standardized control and user interface solutions and integrated conferencing systems.

He also created documentation to support consistent deployment and long-term maintenance. Standardization and documentation aren’t glamorous, but they’re what keep a 50-room rollout from turning into 50 different support cases.

How Does His UC Davis Health Experience Apply?

Floyd’s more than 12 years at UC Davis Health gave him the end-user view of AV systems that integrators design and install. He supervised and supported boardrooms, medical education facilities, lecture halls and conference environments.

That experience puts him on the receiving end of system design decisions. He has lived with the results long after the install crew left, which shapes how he approaches design and support.

What Did Floyd Do Before Professional AV?

Before entering the AV industry, Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force, working on electronic warfare systems. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

What Does the Hire Mean for Visionary’s Integrator Support?

Visionary says the hire is a direct investment in how its engineering and support team helps integrators through design, installation, commissioning and ongoing service. Scott Freshman, chief operating officer for Visionary, points to Floyd’s understanding of how decisions made early in a project carry through to daily operation.

“Chris brings experience with the technical challenges our integrators and end users face throughout the life of an AV system,” Freshman says. “He understands how design decisions affect installation, commissioning and day-to-day support, and he has worked through problems that involve control, audio, video and the network.”

Freshman adds that Floyd’s background strengthens the team’s ability to help customers bring Visionary products into larger systems.

“Chris’ perspective is valuable to our engineering and support team as we help customers integrate Visionary technology into their systems. We’re pleased to welcome him to the team,” Freshman says.

What Does Floyd Say About Joining Visionary?

Floyd says his prior work with Visionary products, from both sides of the project, drew him to the company. He has already deployed and supported the technology he’ll now help design systems around.

“I’ve worked with Visionary’s technology from both the integrator and end-user sides, so I’m excited to now be part of the team behind it,” he says. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to Visionary and contributing to what the team is building.”
