HOLOPLOT, ALC Networx Partner On IP-based Audio Networking

Published: 2021-12-13

Germany-based pro audio company HOLOPLOT has announced a new partnership with ALC NetworX, the developer of RAVENNA technology for ultra-low latency and real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments.

According to HOLOPLOT, developers of the X1 Matrix Array and 3D beamforming technology provider, the partnership will allow its products to share a single IP-based network infrastructure with other network traffic when used for installations or mobile projects.

The company says RAVENNA allows for seamless coexistence with other network traffic, removing the need for a separate network to transport audio and its associated metadata. This provides HOLOPLOT users with scalability, flexibility and efficiency when using Audio-over-IP (AoIP) networks.

The RAVENNA technology is designed to meet the pro audio market’s stringent requirements for low latency, signal transparency and high reliability while ensuring broad interoperability through compatibility with AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 standards.

According to HOLOPLOT, that makes RAVENNA well suited to the X1 Matrix Array, which the company calls an entirely new category of system that grants users an advanced level of control over sound propagation on both horizontal and vertical axes and enabling authentic sound localization.

“AoIP solutions have increasingly become the only option for the transfer of control and audio signals for live audio and complex sound environments,” says Michael Hlatky, head of engineering at HOLOPLOT. “We believe in open technology standards and RAVENNA presents a range of new possibilities for HOLOPLOT in terms of flexibility and the ability to work in complex IT setups alongside other IP technology – while ensuring that the audio performs flawlessly. As the first pro audio partner of RAVENNA, we look forward to fully exploring what its AoIP system can offer us and our customers when delivering the highest quality sound to audiences worldwide.”

Andreas Hildebrand, senior product manager and technology evangelist at ALC NetworX, adds that HOLOPLOT’s audio technology makes it the perfect demonstration for RAVENNA’s IP-based networking capabilities.

“As an open technology standard without a proprietary licensing policy, RAVENNA is well positioned to provide pro audio system creators like HOLOPLOT with the flexibility they need as AoIP continues to evolve as an efficient way to transfer audio and its associated metadata as well as any control protocols without having to rely on separate networks.”

As an IP-based solution, RAVENNA is based on protocol levels at or above layer 3 of the OSI reference model. All protocols and mechanisms used within RAVENNA are based on widely deployed and established standards.

RAVENNA is compatible with AES67 and all relevant mechanisms, protocols and formats used for synchronization, transport and payload mandated by AES67 are fully supported.
