Matrox Video announced the launch of the Matrox Maevex MGX Series, a new lineup of IPMX-ready video encoders and decoders with USB support engineered to deliver 4K60 AV-over-IP distribution at one-twentieth the bitrate of virtually all other pro AV codecs.

According to the company, the new series is designed for enterprise AV, control rooms and medical environments where network efficiency is critical. Matrox says the Maevex MGX Series enables organizations to achieve high image quality and ultra-low-latency performance while using significantly less bandwidth. That, in turn, can help reduce network congestion, simplify infrastructure, increase streaming capacity on the same network and avoid costly network upgrades.

Matrox Video Targets Network Efficiency With Maevex MGX Series

Per the company, the Maevex MGX Series supports both IPMX and Matrox IQ Mode, which can be used independently or simultaneously to meet different workflow requirements. Matrox says the series achieves up to one-twentieth the bandwidth of standard AV-over-IP encoders while maintaining the same visual performance.

When used between compatible Matrox Video devices, Matrox IQ Mode enables latency as low as one frame.

With Maevex MGX, a single input can be streamed simultaneously to multiple outputs and formats, including IPMX, RTSP, MPEG-TS and SRT, enabling more versatile distribution and simplified system design.

Single- and dual-channel models are available, including the Maevex MGX E1 and E2 encoders and Maevex MGX D1 and D2 decoders, offering deployment flexibility. Multiview and compositing capabilities are available on the Maevex MGX E2, D1 and D2, enabling users to combine and manage multiple sources on both the encoding and decoding sides.

4K60 4:4:4 Support and Ultra-Low Latency Aim at Demanding AV Workflows

Image quality and responsiveness remain central to the series across use cases. The Maevex MGX Series supports H.265 4:4:4 for high-fidelity 4K60 video with accurate color reproduction and fine detail. It also supports H.265 4:2:0 and H.264 4:2:0 to accommodate a broader range of AV-over-IP workflows and network requirements.

Matrox adds that the series’ ultra-low-latency performance is designed to support real-time interaction and precise control in demanding environments.

Integrated USB support for keyboard, mouse and webcam connectivity extends the MGX Series beyond traditional streaming applications. The company says this enables remote workstation access, desktop capture and interactive collaboration workflows, allowing users not only to distribute content but also interact with it in real time.

Matrox Positions MGX Series for Enterprise AV, Control Rooms and Medical Settings

“For years, the pro AV industry has accepted that AV-over-IP deployments require tradeoffs between image quality, latency and bandwidth,” says Ron Berty, business development manager at Matrox Video. “The Maevex MGX Series represents a paradigm shift in how organizations can approach AV-over-IP infrastructure. It gives customers the flexibility to design the interoperable systems they want without accepting limitations in quality, latency or bandwidth. As we celebrate 50 years of innovation at Matrox Video, Maevex MGX reflects our continued focus on solving real-world technology challenges in a practical and meaningful way.”

Matrox states that the Maevex MGX Series is well suited for control rooms, enterprise video distribution, medical environments and unified communication and collaboration environments where performance, efficiency and interoperability are critical.

Per the statement, Matrox Maevex MGX Series is now available for order and shipping worldwide.
