We were visiting MARTA’s police communications center (PCC) on the day that the organization was kicking off initial planning for the creation of a new integrated central command center to be located at its Dunwoody station. The building will centralize the PCC, the bus communication center (BCC), the rail service communications center (RSCC) and a new emergency operations center (EOC).
“We thought it better that we could have greater synergies and greater efficiencies if we pulled all of those communication centers together into one and so we’re currently building our new IOC, our integrated operations center,” Montgomery says. The agency is helping Atlanta in the overall effort to deter crime, as it has worked with Atlanta PD on the Video Integration Center (VIC) project that is integrating and sharing citywide cameras. “We own about 1,200 cameras that exist in all of our 30 or so stations and APD has access to all of those, and we’re able to see theirs,” Montgomery explains.
