Why Crowds are Falling in Love with Revlon’s Times Square Video Board

Published: December 23, 2016

It’s the holidays, and big-shot retail brands like Revlon know how to spread the cheer, and attract more customers.

Looking to promote its ‘Love is On’ campaign, Revlon employed Clear Channel Spectacolor, a brand division of Clear Channel Outdoor, to install an interactive LED video board at 1500 Broadway in Times Square.

Located on the Good Morning America building, the Daktronics-manufactured 36-foot-high by 85-foot-wide LED billboard features high-resolution 10-millimeter line spacing.

In addition to installing a video wall large enough to stand out in Times Square, Revlon wanted to ensure the images and videos displayed on the LED video board would be bright and visibile even in the harshest weather.

The billboard plays HD content that boasts sharper contrast and superior brightness, even in direct sunlight. A darker display face provides deeper, more pronounced blacks, while custom LED louvers significantly improve color integrity and viewing angles.

The sign has an exclusive contract with Revlon, and features an interactive ‘Kiss’ crowd camera and entertains Times Square audiences.

The new two-sided LED video billboard was unveiled during the kickoff of Revlon’s brand re-launch campaign (Revlon LOVE IS ON in December of 2014).

Revlon contracted with Spectacolor to be the billboard’s exclusive advertiser, quickly naming the billboard the “Global Love Beacon,” which interacts with Times Square audiences via a jumbo “kiss cam.”

Interactive content prompts viewers to share their “love moment” photos for a chance to have them appear on the big screen. Fans from around the world can play along too by sharing their photos and messages 24/7 at #LOVEISON or at
