Editor’s Note: This article stems from Commercial Integrator’s AV-over-IP (AVoIP) Deep Dive report. Our editors spoke to integrators and prominent suppliers like Matrox Video to understand how they are advancing AVoIP and helping integrators enjoy greater success.

The debate over whether AV belongs on the network is largely settled. The harder question now is how to deploy it inside the buildings, budgets and infrastructure that integrators encounter every day. Matrox Video is building its portfolio around the answer to that question.

Designing Around Constraints, Not Ideal Conditions

Most integrators don’t get to start from scratch. They inherit existing networks, existing budgets and customers who expect top-tier performance regardless of their existing technology estate. That tension came up again and again at InfoComm this past June. Throughout the show, scalability and interoperability dominated integrator conversations.

The Maevex MGX Series is Matrox Video’s response. It delivers 4K60 H.265 encoding with 4:4:4 color fidelity at a fraction of the bandwidth of other pro AV codecs, with glass-to-glass latency as low as one frame in Matrox IQ Mode, over 1GbE infrastructure. Catherine Koutsaris, product marketing manager at Matrox Video, frames it simply, saying that the design gives integrators “the flexibility to do more with less.”

Matrox Video AVoIP Strategy: Satisfy AV and IT

AV teams need video that just works. IT teams need infrastructure that’s secure and manageable and that doesn’t create new headaches. Those demands have historically forced a compromise. The Maevex MGX Series helps integrators to minimize that potential trade-off.

It pairs the image quality and performance that AV teams rely on with open standards like IPMX and NMOS that slot cleanly into IT environments. Integrators can mix best-of-breed components without what Koutsaris calls “a million adapters, a million go arounds, some duct tape and a prayer to make things work together nicely.” When both teams walk away satisfied, that’s the product doing its job.

Matrox Video and AVoIP: Solutions That Are Built to Grow

The next phase of AVoIP belongs to solutions that scale without forcing integrators to choose between quality, latency and compatibility. Matrox Video is positioning itself squarely at that intersection. And by the sound of it, the company is just getting started.
