Published: 2015-01-30

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will use Black Hawk helicopters and super-sized X-ray machines to monitor the University of Phoenix Stadium during Super Bowl XLIX.

The helicopters and X-ray machines are typically used for U.S.-Mexico Border patrol to detect contraband and explosives. The large X-ray will be able to scan an entire semi-trailer is as little as a few minutes, while the helicopters will hover over the game.

The CPB also plans to send roughly 100 officers to help with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to patrol the game.

The Department of Homeland Security, Air Force, National Guard and the FBI will also be on hand during the big game, as such events are likely to be targeted by terrorists.
