Published: 2017-11-09

Extron has introduced two new HDMI switchers that are capable of supporting 4K at 60Hz and data rates up to 18Gbps, along with Ethernet control.

The newly announced SW2 HD 4K PLUS is a two-input HDMI switcher, while the SW4 HD 4K PLUS is a four-input product. Both solutions are compatible with a wide variety of signals, including 4K at 60Hz with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling.

“Extron SW switchers have been a favorite among AV integrators for years, and we are pleased to introduce the next generation for reliable display and switching of HDMI 4K/60 video signals,” says Casey Hall, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, Extron.

“The SW2 HD 4K PLUS and SW4 HD 4K PLUS Extron HDMI switchers also feature Ethernet control and monitoring for remote operation and management and support a variety of HDMI 2.0 signal options to deliver a more transparent experience for the end user.”

The products are also compatible with high dynamic range (HDR), HDCP copyright protection, 12-bit Deep Color, and HD lossless audio.

Some of the HDMI switchers’ dealer-friendly installation options include CEC pass-through, automatic input cable equalization up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) when using Extron HDMI Pro Series Cables, Lip Sync, and Ethernet, RS-232, and contact-closure ports to enable integration into third-party control systems.

Extron also explains the SW series HDMI switchers automatically adjusts color depth bit depth based on display EDID to ensure compatibility between displays and source components, and front-panel LED indicators that provide visual communication of HDCP authentication.

The Anaheim, Calif.-based electronics manufacturer adds that in the event that a HDCP-encrypted signal is sent to a non-compliant display, the switchers will produce a full-screen green signal that provides visual confirmation that HDCP-encrypted content cannot be shown on that display.
