CI Fantasy Football League: Week 14 Results and In-Depth Analysis

Published: 2018-12-11

Can you feel that? Those goosebumps running up and down your arms are a sure sign it’s CI Fantasy Football playoffs time—as if we had to tell you.

There are now only 24 CIFF18 teams left from the original 54-team scrum who kicked off the season in September with hopes of a championship in their eyes. Among CI staffers, only Shawn Tobin (Banner Clique in CI Fantasy Football Group 2) and Craig MacCormack (Mac Daddies in CI Fantasy Football Group 3) have the chance to hoist the fake trophy and celebrate the imaginary glory.

Here’s a closer look at all the Week 14 action. Best of luck to all remaining playoff teams and better luck next year to those who are watching from the sidelines.

Group 1 Commissioner: Ray Lyons

  • (4) Savi Controls 104.9 pts
  • (1) Diversified 85.3 pts

FEATURED REPORT

CI Commisioner Trash Talk: It’s playoff time….well not for me, but for the 4 teams that made it in CIFF League #1. We start off with the big upset, Savi Controls starts the first of this two-week matchup vs. #1 seed Diversified with a 105-85 lead….it was Diversified’s worst performance of the year – what timing! In the #2 v #3 matchup, T1V laid down 151 pts to move out in front of Waveguide (120 pts), but there’s always next week. For the rest of us bums that didn’t make the playoffs, we had standout performances by my opponent Canon Projectors (156 pts) and Speco Technologies (134 pts).

Group 2 Commissioner: Shawn Tobin

Playoff Round 1
Matchup
  • (4) Magic Skol Bus 98.9
  • (1) Winning as a Service 159.3
Matchup
  • (2) Banner Clique 102.1
  • (3) Team SureCall 129

CI Commissioner Trash Talk: With playoff scores being a 2-week aggregate total, it’s important to get off to an early start. Team SureCall rode 47 points from Derrick Henry en route to a 27-point lead at the halfway mark over Banner Clique. In the other bracket, the #1 seed from AVI-SPL showed why he’s been the best team all season – running up a 60+ point lead after the first week.

Group 3 Commissioner: Craig MacCormack

Win-Losses
Team Guhl (Jennifer Guhl-ANC) 12-2
Rolls Royce (Jim Caldwell-Maximus Control) 10-4
Mac Daddies (Craig MacCormack-CI) 8-6
A Case of the Mondays (Matt Camps-NETECH Corporation) 8-6
The Lukes O Hazzard (Luke Jordan-EAVI) 7-7
Team Sansivero (Gina Sansivero-AtlasIED) 6-8
Team Durham (Scott Durham-Yorktel) 5-9
Guns N Rosens (James Ballard-Orbis) 5-9
Team Means (Jimmy Means) 5-9
Team Donnelly (Ryan Donnelly-Third Coast Tech) 4-10

CI Commissioner Trash Talk: Congratulations to Team Guhl for clinching the top spot in the playoffs with another convincing win in the last week of regular-season action. Rolls Royce, Mac Daddies and A Case of the Mondays also clinched home-field advantage for the first week of postseason action, while the rest of the league finished at .500 or below, but four of them still have a chance to bask in fake gridiron glory — and anything can happen in the tournament.

Guns N Rosens looks to avenge two lopsided losses at the hand of Team Guhl, while Team Sansivero will try to recapture the Week 6 magic that catapulted her to victory over Mac Daddies and earn bragging rights in this matchup of Jets and Patriots fans, while also knocking off the two-time league champion who’s seeking to make Phil Jackson a few bucks with a three-peat. A lot has changed for A Case of the Mondays and The Lukes O Hazzard since they met in Week 4 for an exciting matchup and Team Durham and Rolls Royce will meet for the third time since Week 10, looking to break the 1-1 tie between them.

Group 4 Commissioner: Tom LeBlanc

Playoff Round 1
Matchup
  • (4) Team Luisi 135.7
  • (1) Skol Vikings 107.3
Matchup
  • (3) Team Gasparo 190
  • (2) Can You Diggs It?! 108.3

CI Commissioner Trash Talk: Pigs are flying. Cats are making friends with dogs. Everything has gone haywire in the CI Fantasy Football League with two upsets poised to send both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds home for the holidays, although there’s still one more week for order to be restored. Team Gasparo, the No. 3 seed, which after apparently meditating through the first half the season picked up his compete level down the stretch, destroyed Can You Diggs It?!, taking a 190 to 108.3 lead. Meanwhile, No. 4 seed Team Luisi flew ahead of No. 1 seed Skol Vikings, 135.7 to 107.3. Skol Vikings had been in first place for most of the season before apparent complacency (and Julio Jones) got the best of him in the first week of the playoffs.

Group 5 Commissioner: Chelsea Cafiero

Playoff Round 1
Matchup
  • (4) Smiling Malards 83.2
  • (1) Team Schutzer 85.5
Matchup
  • (3) The Evil Empire 99.5
  • (2) 2 Gurleys One Cup 96.4

CI Commissioner Trash Talk: The first week of the playoffs featured a pair of close matchups with all four teams ready to get back at it for another week starting Thursday. Team Schutzer, the 2018 favorite, took an early lead on the No. 4 seed Smiling Malards. The Evil Empire meanwhile took the lead over the No. 2 seed Gurleys heading into the second week of playoff excitement.
